“Sand beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

Of all the beaches close to Hydra Town, we enjoyed this the most because they have an area on the beach that has sand access into the water. All of the others either had pebbles or there is one close by with rocks with ladder access into the water. Walking to Mandhraki took us about 45 minutes, so we opted for a water taxi costing 3euros each, one way, which only takes about 10 minutes. There are umbrellas with two lounges for 5 euros and also some daybeds (don't know the cost of those). The sand beach is on the bar/restaurant side with music on the loudspeaker. There is also a pebble/rock beach on the other side where you do not hear the music, but is still extremely close to the bar/restaurant.

“Wonderful swimming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2013

Crystal clear, blue water you can imagine the argonauts sailing in to the bay... The hotel Miramare beach is great for families, due to the inflatable trampolines in the water. Plus the steps down into the water means you avoid pebbles. However if you prefer it quieter then choose the beach to the far right where you can't hear the music too loudly or even quieter is the beach on the left which also has a very good taverna and free sunbeds to the customers. (in fact at lunchtime I would recommend the taverna above the hotel as its difficult to get served quickly) The bay usually has a few yachts and cruisers anchored out to gaze and fantasise about, overall, the most lovely calm swim where you could be in paradise!

“Stuffy atmosphere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

I guess Mandhraki is a fine beach if you have children. But if you want fresh waters and a quiet afternoon in the sand, try Vlykos or even better - Plakes.

“Well worth the walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We arrived on a windy day when the owners were busy packing up and shutting shop for the winter. They were clearly busy but this didn't interfere with a genuinely warm welcome and great service. If you judge the people before the place this looks like a good bet - and let's face it, Hydra isn't exactly flush with beaches, so one less than a half hour from town centre is well worth a stroll.
