“Great relaxing holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

1 Location

This was our first time in Thassos and we wanted a relaxing holiday in Greece to soak up the culture along with the sun. The great reviews of the Mediterranean apartments gave us incentive to stay there, along with the great price. The hotel is situated in a small village with all the essential necessities close by: supermarket, pharmacy, petrol station (if you rent a car like we did (highly recommended if you are a confident driver)), beautiful beach, a few great restaurants and small shops. Overall the location of the hotel is great, relaxing and peaceful.

2 Hotel

The hotel was very clean; our rooms were cleaned every day, the towels and bed lining every 3 days. The communal areas (pool, canteen, bar and seating areas) were very well kept. Unfortunately our room was right next to the bar, therefore the music kept us awake if we went to bed before 12.30 am.

3 Food and drinks

We stayed full board. The breakfast was varied, cereals, Greek yoghurt, fruits, toast and the selections for a full English. We were a little disappointed by the selection of the lunch time menu; the only Greek dish was Souvlaki (pork/chicken), but there were options such as burgers, bolognaise, carbonara, sandwiches with sides such as tzatziki, chips and salad. This food was OK. For dinner, you had to select an option of four dishes for the main in the morning; these were quite varied each day with more Greek options. The starters of salads in a canteen style became a bit repetitive by the end of the week. But the deserts were different each day; with some choice (the kataifi and baklava were very nice!). The ‘BBQ’ on Friday was unusual, there was no BBQ and we ate indoors as usual.

Overall the food was average, but for the price we paid was good value and met our expectations. The bar had a huge selection of drinks (alcoholic and soft), the beer (Mythos and Amstel) was fairly priced, there were Greek options such as Frappe and Greek coffee, and the local wine was tasty and good value. Drinks are ordered by creating a tab to your room which you could pay off at any point.

4 Staff

The bar staff were lovely, very approachable and friendly. Often we sat at the bar to chat with the bartenders (Jordan and Sonny). However the manager wasn’t very approachable, in our opinion.

5 Thassos in general

If you are looking for a relaxing, picturesque Greek getaway without armies of British tourists Thassos is perfect. The hotel has a free bus that goes to the islands capital every morning, and from there you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. Mount Ipsarion, Golden beach and Paradise beach are a must.

Room Tip: Book in advance, avoid room 104!

From the moment we stepped into the Hotel we just knew that our holiday was going to be fantastic.Karen the manager met us with a cold drink and we were allocated our room.It far exceeded our expectations and we felt the brochure did not do it justice. This set our feeling for the rest of the holiday. The Ldies who cleaned did a fantastic job.The Bar staff were great especially Sonny with his great sense of humour.Chef made marvelous meals which were replenished frequently so that you were never left with minimum choice.
When i got a head injury due to foolishly falling down stairs Karen arranged for Sonny to take me to the medical centre, translate for me and generally take care of me.After being told i needed to be observed in case of concussion Sonny told me to phone him when i could return. Where else do you get that service.2days later the owner came to me on the terrace to check that i was still ok.
We had so much fun in the evenings that we only went out once as there were so many like minded people there. Thanks Karen for such entertaining quizes.
We did not find any down side to the Hotel,Staff or holiday. It was also the first time we have ever been seen off by a manager before who personally said goodbye to each client.
Thank you all for our holiday.
Ruth and Trevor Martin

Room Tip: Go for a top floor room. They have fantastic views and bigger balconeys.

Best relaxing holiday ever. Ferry to thassos was great then a15 min journey to hotel was quick and stress free. Small and intimate hotel. Very clean with more than enough sun beds for everyone, so no getting up to reserve them! Food was of excellent quality including lunchtime. The views of Greece and the sunsets were the best. The free courtesy bus into thassos town was a nice touch. Karen, Sunny and Jordan were the icing on top of the cake! Would definitely return.

Our first visit to Thassos and the Mediterranean Apartments. After reading all the reviews we wre expecting a perfect relaxing holiday and we were not disappointed. The staff were excellent, they were always happy to help,Karen,Jordan and Sonny really helped to make our holiday. Skala Rachoni is a really quiet resort but getting out and about is really easy with the reliable bus service and also the free mini bus from the hotel to Thassos town every morning. If you want to explore the interior of the island you would need to hire a 4x4 as some of the mountain roads are quite steep and rugged or do as we did and book a trip with Real Holidays based in Skala Prinou. The owner Yiannis took us on a full day trip up in to the mountains and although 60 Euros each may seem a bit expensive we started out at 9:15 in the morning and did not get back
until 7:00 in the evening and included an excellent meal with drinks at a lovely taverna.
Back to the Med. the food is excellent and plenty of it with enough choice to satisfy most people and a good selection of drinks all reasonably priced. The rooms are clean, the cleaning staff work really hard and even did our washing up for us! We met some great people and it really is a very friendly place. We stayed in room 209 and the views are stunning, just what you want to
wake up to in the morning.Again i'd like to thank everyone at the Med. for a fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: all rooms seem to have a great view

This is the second time that we have stayed at the Mediterranean, the first being a couple of years back. Unlike the first visit the hotel now has dining facilities and the food is of very good quality. We found our stay again to be very enjoyable. The hotel clean, well maintained and the staff are very friendly. It is positioned in a quite attractive area in a beach side setting.
I would certainly recommend this hotel for someone looking for a quite relaxing holiday.

This was our first visit to Thassos and the Mediterranean Apartments.
We had read the many excellent reviews and were not disappointed. Nice small hotel situated directly on the beach with beautiful views across to the Mainland.
The staff were very friendly and efficient.
Everywhere was very clean.
We were in room 201 which was towards the rear but still had a nice sea view from the balcony which was lovely and sunny in late afternoon and evening. The room was also fairly quiet and we could only just hear the noise from the bar in the late evening.
Only complaint about the room comfort was the beds which were quite firm and very squeaky.
The food was excellent. We were initially a little concerned at the restaurant being in a basement, but it worked really well (nice and bright and modern, but cool and no wind to contend with and very few flies). The choice for the evening meal was a little limited but we had no problem in finding things we liked, and everyone seemed to enjoy them. We usually go for the local Greek dishes and there was always at least one of these plus other options. Breakfast was really good too with both continental and full english options. The Greek salads and soups were especially good. Didn't like the orange juice but coffee was good. We had the bonus of full board and enjoyed the light snacks by the pool bar. We would normally try the local tavernas but decided to stick with the Hotel's food because it was so good.
Drink prices were quite reasonable - 2.50€ for a large beer and 4€ for 1/2 litre of house wine which was perfectly acceptable.
The weather was fantastic for our week in Thassos although the wind was still a little chilly at times.
We hired a car for 2 days which was just about enough to explore the Island. It only takes a couple of hours to go round it on the ring road. There are some lovely small villages slightly inland and some nice quiet beaches. Thassos town is quite busy compared to the rest of the Island, but it is well worth a trip to the Archealogical Museum. Aliki, Maries and Panagia are worth visiting.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view, the quieter rooms are towards the rear.
