This was our first time in Thassos and we wanted a relaxing holiday in Greece to soak up the culture along with the sun. The great reviews of the Mediterranean apartments gave us incentive to stay there, along with the great price. The hotel is situated in a small village with all the essential necessities close by: supermarket, pharmacy, petrol station (if you rent a car like we did (highly recommended if you are a confident driver)), beautiful beach, a few great restaurants and small shops. Overall the location of the hotel is great, relaxing and peaceful.
The hotel was very clean; our rooms were cleaned every day, the towels and bed lining every 3 days. The communal areas (pool, canteen, bar and seating areas) were very well kept. Unfortunately our room was right next to the bar, therefore the music kept us awake if we went to bed before 12.30 am.
3 Food and drinks
We stayed full board. The breakfast was varied, cereals, Greek yoghurt, fruits, toast and the selections for a full English. We were a little disappointed by the selection of the lunch time menu; the only Greek dish was Souvlaki (pork/chicken), but there were options such as burgers, bolognaise, carbonara, sandwiches with sides such as tzatziki, chips and salad. This food was OK. For dinner, you had to select an option of four dishes for the main in the morning; these were quite varied each day with more Greek options. The starters of salads in a canteen style became a bit repetitive by the end of the week. But the deserts were different each day; with some choice (the kataifi and baklava were very nice!). The ‘BBQ’ on Friday was unusual, there was no BBQ and we ate indoors as usual.
Overall the food was average, but for the price we paid was good value and met our expectations. The bar had a huge selection of drinks (alcoholic and soft), the beer (Mythos and Amstel) was fairly priced, there were Greek options such as Frappe and Greek coffee, and the local wine was tasty and good value. Drinks are ordered by creating a tab to your room which you could pay off at any point.
The bar staff were lovely, very approachable and friendly. Often we sat at the bar to chat with the bartenders (Jordan and Sonny). However the manager wasn’t very approachable, in our opinion.
5 Thassos in general
If you are looking for a relaxing, picturesque Greek getaway without armies of British tourists Thassos is perfect. The hotel has a free bus that goes to the islands capital every morning, and from there you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. Mount Ipsarion, Golden beach and Paradise beach are a must.
