This seems to me to be one of the crown jewels of Samos' archeological heritage tourism. A modern, well-designed museum, telling a clear story of the development of ancient Samos through to the Byzantine period, complete with live excavation of an artisan quarter on the plot next door to the museum, giving the whole experience a very real contextual underpinning.
The exhibits are well labelled and have a clear narrative flow through the museum. Whilst the highly prized Heraion artefacts reside in the Samos archeological Museum in the capital, Vathy, Pythagorieo has by far the best collection of hellenistic and imperial statuary on the island.
As always with Greek museums and historical sites, entry is very cheap - three euros per person, and a complimentary little guide leaflet thrown in for good measure.
