“Better than last year”

Panorama Hotel

Jul 17, 2008

As we enjoyed our holiday at The Panorama last year we went again this year. Enjoyed it even more and had a really relaxing holiday coming home with great memories. The pool has to be one of the best and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
This time our room was a little higher up the hill, not such a good view as last year but it stayed cooler. Alas the hotel Greek Night has been somewhat ruined by Health and Safety. Last year the food was BBQ'd and served up outside, now due to the dreaded H&S it's still BBQ'd outside but is brought inside so you can put it on your plate and take it outside again. I never thought I'd see the day when H&S arrived in Greece. Yes, breakfast is a little dull and repetitive over a fortnight.
Some other reviewers have suggested that complaints fall on deaf ears, we had a slight problem when for a few days room service forgot us. As soon as I mentioned this at the desk all was put right . I found the family very helpful and pleasant.
The hotel also has a library with a huge choice of books so plenty of reading if you want it. There's some building work taking place nearby but small scale and it didn't affect our holiday at all.
The hotel is close to the beach but a little further from the nearest tavernas and a bit further from the centre. There are some really good tavernas, some meals were better than others but we never had a bad meal.
Lesvos is a lovely island, there's a lot to see and do. This was truly one of the most enjoyable and relaxing holidays I've had.

We stayed at the Panorama in June when the temperatures hit 35 in the shade, but the breeze made everything bearable. This is a family run hotel with a warm welcome and a relaxed atmosphere. We were bed and breakfast guests and the only real let down was the breakfast. We don't expect much from a continental breakfast but the lack of choice became very monotinous after two weeks. Ham, processed cheese, bread, sweet bread/cake, jam, orange juice, cherry juice, tea & coffee. There was yogurt but no honey though we did get boiled eggs on a couple of days.
The rooms are clean with fresh linen twice a week. They are set into the hillside with beautiful views unless you get lower rooms which just look out onto the back of the hotel. The swimming pool and bar area is lovely with some shaded areas to enable you to get out of the sun. Be aware though, the shaded areas are not totally sun proof and you can still get burnt without sun cream.
The hotel food is very good and at a competative price. There is an all inclusive evening meal menu at 14 euros which is excellent value for money. This is a buffet style meal which includes 1/2 litre wine per couple and is lovely to eat on the veranda overlooking the pool. If you don't fancy everything on the menu just tell them what you would like and they try their best to accomodate you. Nothing is too much trouble.
There are 'extras' to pay for such as 3 euros per day for a fridge, 5 euros per day for air conditioning, although in our room 308 we had the sun most of the day so it was essential for a good night's sleep. It was the quietest air con we have ever heard, well worth the money. The best thing is to allow for these in the budget before you go.
The family have been there for 18 years and actually built the hotel themselves adding on each winter. They are very proud of their hotel and when you visit you can understand why.

The hotel is family run and ideally situated in the resort of Petra. Rooms are clean and a decent size, they are built in small blocks on the hillside so you never feel that you are overlooked. The pool area is spacious and the bar serves lovely meals during the day and in the evening. The Panorama is built far enough from the resort centre to be peaceful but only a 10-15 minute walk to the centre, where there is a good selection of Tavernas. A must is the Womens Co-operative which is built above the Cantina bar in the Square. Food is well-priced and good quality with a homely feel. There are tables on balconies overlooking the Square and the sea. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and would certainly go back. Nearby Molyvos is well worth a visit the only problem we had was a meal at 'Bettys'. We were encouraged to look around the kitchen and it was suggested that we try 'a little of this, and a little of that'. This we did only to find that we were charged for full portions, and ended up with the most expensive bill we have had in any of the Greek islands we have visited! Talking to others we were not the only ones that felt they had been misled. The food was nice and the location good but I would advise checking what was being put on the order and at what price!

“nice hotel but have to pay for all extra's”

Panorama Hotel

Jun 6, 2008

nice hotel with good views and clean
for elder people could be a steep walk to the highest rooms
but breakfast is really not enough for me
everyday just old bread(the fresh bread only came in at 8,30am and some days even not at all)(cheap)ham and cheese and some jelly
for everything you gotta pay
airconditioning 5 euro
fridge 3 euro
safe 1 euro
too I got only one soap in one week
and towels get changed 2x a week
so don't throw them on the ground..
so for me I would stay there again if they improve the breakfast and includes at least airco

We booked to stay here with first choice. The flight and transfer were good. Our rep was fantastic and gave us a full guided tour of the island, which made the transfer go a bit quicker (1 1/2 hours) She said she had asked to return next yr so if you choose the panorama you may have the lovely marge.

The hotel was beautiful. There are flowers on every corner and the overal feel is very nice. The room was very clean with no squished mozzies on the wall. The bathroom was nice and clean ( i am very very picky about bathrooms so i do not toss the word clean around lightly).

The balcony had a wonderful view over petra and because you are set back from the road it was very peaceful.

The breakfast was the best we have ever had on the greek islands. It consisted of boiled eggs, watermelon, olives, cheese, ham bread and greek yogurt. There was a selection of juices and tea and coffee for you to help yourself.

We ate at the pool bar most days and there was a nice selection of snacks from greek salads to toasted sandwiches. we ate dinner there once and it was so delicious.

Most nights we stopped at the bar for a cocktail on the way back. We often got chatting to one of the brothers who are both so friendly and helpful. Try the panorama cocktail, but be aware they don't measure their spirits!

The walk to petra was a bit annoying, but so much closer than we thought. The path was overrun with palm trees so prepare to be spiked!

Petra is beautiful try the womens cooperative for diner, and one of the first little restuarants as you walk into town. with a mermaid on it His mum does all the cooking we went there twice as the food was sooooo good.

If you are at all spiritual visit the church it is well worth the climb and a beautiful place.

I would definatly return to petra and the panorama. A great place for all tastes.
