“Affordable accommodation with great seaview”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2009

My husband and I spent a long weekend on Ikaria island end of May-early June and we stayed at Erofili, which we had booked in advance. We were conscious that the hotel was rather old-fashioned and didn't expect much in terms of service, but chose it nevertheless thanks to its location at Armenistis village (wouldn't stay anywhere else on Ikaria, after some preliminary search and review of photos on the Internet) and its fantastic views, overlooking the sea and two of the island's best beaches (both walking distance from the hotel).

Its strongest attraction was probably the price: at 50 euros per night (still low season), we found it more or less a bargain. The hotel's decorations and furniture are OK although old-fashioned - there was none of the notoriously ugly plastic chairs you see on the terraces of many other modest hotels.... In fact, the furniture around the veranda and the swimming pool would suit a higher category hotel.

Biggest disappointment: the breakfast (included in the price). It was to be expected, but still, the total absence of breakfast cereal, milk and fresh fruit from the menu, as well as the rather poor quality of the bread (plain white, no other types available) and sweets (seemed like coming from a supermarket shelf) put us off from trying it the second morning. There was still some variety, but we didn't find the food to our liking.

Also, some of the rooms are next to the road (which is the main street of the village) - beware of noise from traffic, esp. during high season. Better to ask for a quieter room - although you risk noise from the pool then.

We probably wouldn't mind going back or recommending the hotel to friends who plan to take a holiday on Ikaria, but one should be aware of the shortcomings. And a tip: before booking, check out the nearby Toxotis villas - we came across the impressive complex, very new and tasteful from the outside, while walking by it at Armenistis one evening. No idea what's it like on the inside, but may be worth checking out!

My husband and I were in Ikarria attending a family wedding. We stayed for over a week in the Erofili located on the northern shore of Ikaria in the viallge of Armenistis. Ikaria is not as large, populated or busy as many of the greek islands. Armenistis is a small place, but well serviced with restaurants and car rentals etc. The beaches are lovely and ocean warm! The hotel was clean and well appointed but relatively expensive. The rooms have fridges and a/c that works. The pool was lovely however, the deck chairs were at a premium. The balconies are very large and the views spectacular. The staff worked hard to accommodate requests however it was annoying being billed for things like internet and over-charged for laundry.

This hotel was really fantastic. Each room has a large balcony with incredible unobstructed views over the sea. The room was very clean with all mod-cons and the breakfast (included) was also very good. Staff were very friendly and there is also a wonderful pool surrounded by a terrace which has great sea views. Altogether a great experience.

Amenistis is also a very good place to be based on the island with many tavernas and several excellent beaches nearby.

Add this Island and Hotel to your "to do" holidays!!!! Hotel Fab, location Fab, staff Fab, views out to see amazing - what more can I say. Ikaria Island is less touristy than other Greek Island and is only a two hour ferry trip from Samos Island. The tavernas in Armenistis served all home cooked food which we gave 10/10 every night. A must do while on the Island is the Wild West Tour which is worth every penny. Holiday was all booked through Sunvil.... Highly recommended

the Erofili sits in the best position imaginable, just a minutes walk to the left is the great beach and to the right is the village itself. The Sea view rooms at the hotel offer the most wonderful views of the sea and across to distant Samos, so well worth that little bit extra. All in all a very nice comfortable little hotel run by friendly staff. If you want music, television and English food and fast efficient service then forget Ikaria. On the other hand, if you want a totally laid back holiday and to experience what Greek island life should be like then go there before it gets discovered.
