My husband and I spent a long weekend on Ikaria island end of May-early June and we stayed at Erofili, which we had booked in advance. We were conscious that the hotel was rather old-fashioned and didn't expect much in terms of service, but chose it nevertheless thanks to its location at Armenistis village (wouldn't stay anywhere else on Ikaria, after some preliminary search and review of photos on the Internet) and its fantastic views, overlooking the sea and two of the island's best beaches (both walking distance from the hotel).
Its strongest attraction was probably the price: at 50 euros per night (still low season), we found it more or less a bargain. The hotel's decorations and furniture are OK although old-fashioned - there was none of the notoriously ugly plastic chairs you see on the terraces of many other modest hotels.... In fact, the furniture around the veranda and the swimming pool would suit a higher category hotel.
Biggest disappointment: the breakfast (included in the price). It was to be expected, but still, the total absence of breakfast cereal, milk and fresh fruit from the menu, as well as the rather poor quality of the bread (plain white, no other types available) and sweets (seemed like coming from a supermarket shelf) put us off from trying it the second morning. There was still some variety, but we didn't find the food to our liking.
Also, some of the rooms are next to the road (which is the main street of the village) - beware of noise from traffic, esp. during high season. Better to ask for a quieter room - although you risk noise from the pool then.
We probably wouldn't mind going back or recommending the hotel to friends who plan to take a holiday on Ikaria, but one should be aware of the shortcomings. And a tip: before booking, check out the nearby Toxotis villas - we came across the impressive complex, very new and tasteful from the outside, while walking by it at Armenistis one evening. No idea what's it like on the inside, but may be worth checking out!
