“Good value for a very good price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

Small hotel in an excellent location. Helpful staff and nice, clean rooms. Very reasonable price. Only thing I missed a little bit, was a restaurant during all day. Anyway, breakfast (included in a price of acomodation) was very good.

The review headlined "You get what you pay for" sums it up. The location is ideal for all you need to do in central Thessaloniki, but it's basically a decent B&B rather than a 3 or 4 star hotel. Our room was on the street and though we were assured by staff that the double glazing would keep the noise out, it didn't really do so and the room smelt of old cigarette smoke. Strangely the curtain only went across half the window - it looked as if the other had fallen down and not been replaced. But the high ceilinged room was clean.
It's clear that the bathroom has been squeezed into the corner of an old room (you can see the original communal bathroom at the end of the 1st floor corridor) and the shower cubicle is indeed small. WiFi free and worked well.
There is no hot breakfast and the selection is adequate rather than generous - only one cereal and no selection of yoghurt. The fruit juice is reconstituted powder and both it and the coffee don't taste good. But the pastries were fresh. It would not cost much to provide better quality....
The staff are friendly and helpful and can point you towards parking a block away where you can leave your car for EUR 15 / day (cash only) - this is well worth it as you can walk everywhere in the centre of town and parking otherwise is a nightmare.
Make sure you read all the reviews and as long as your expectations are not too high, you'll be OK. 4 stars for location; 1-2 stars for breakfast and 1 star for noise.

Room Tip: Avoid the street side which, despite the double glazing, is noisy.

First, they have a lovely and helpful staff. They will help you with any needs with genuine interest. The hotel is old, but that adds to the charm. It's very clean and well maintained with new furnishings. Worst thing is the small bathroom and shower. If you are overweight, you don't stand a chance of getting in the shower. Not a joke. Great location within walking distance of the historical sites. Bus from train station stops right across the street from the hotel; don't take a taxi unless you've got a bunch of euros burning a hole in your pocket and want to get ripped off. Would stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: Ask to see it first.

I have stayed at the Tourist hotel on 30th August 2011 with a friend of mine.
It is right next to Aristotelous' square, at the heart of Thessaloniki, seconds from the sea front.
When we arrived to check-in, we were actually 30mn early, but it was not a problem and the very nice receptionist checked us in anyway.
The whole hotel looks really grand and felt cool (which was a blessing considering the high temperature outside).
The room itself was on the 2nd floor - accessible either by the wonderfull marble staircase or the lift. It was quite spacious, clean and well decorated. The bathroom was small but clean and very functional. The aircon work perfectly well.
All the member of staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast could have been a bit better, but it was reasonnable and included.
I would definitely stay there again when I go back.

Staying in a standard single room and you get what you pay for -- a $75 single room with AC and the most basic of bathrooms (actually my shower was simply a hand-held shower hose with head coming out of the wall in the corner of the bathroom -- no shower curtain or enclosure). Because of the warnings about noise, I got a room in the back of the building. The room was clean but very basic and sparse. The building itself was fine and was formerly the residence of a few rich families, but it was not a place you would linger -- very utilitarian you use it for sleeping, have your breakfast and head out for sightseeing or business.

The staff were very helpful and kind, but they still could not turn this 2* hotel into a palace. The location was very good for access to Ladadika, Aristotle Square, or most of the center city sites. Breakfast was decent, but not sure what they were trying to pass off as orange juice. The antique elevator was functional and saved the walk up to the top floor.

If I were to stay here again, I would try to get a more deluxe room. But depending on price, there may be better places to stay in Salonika. And I definitely do not know how the tripadvisor algorithm ranks this hotel so high, unless the rest of the hotels are that much worse.

Room Tip: get a deluxe room and try to stay in the back of the nbuilding to avoid street noise

The hotel is just a few blocks from the square and sea front so it's really easy to walk around. The staff were helpful most of the time. However the building itself is so old and dark and the room felt like 19th century. I also had to change room because it was so noisy (street facing room) then the other room wasn't particularly good either...
