“Great location, lovely modern hotel in a charming city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

Great location, lovely modern room with a balcony on the 6th floor (90 Euros). The staff were welcoming and very gracious (we got to park our car in front of the hotel for our complete stay). The breakfast room was busy, but the food was lavish and delicious and the staff kept it well stocked. The location can be noisy. The city views included ancient ruins -- and neighboring apartments. Wonderful, welcoming hotel.

Nice hotel - very clean - very helpful staff - adequate breakfast. The rooms are very modern (disagree with review below mine) and very clean. The beds were very comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. The derelict building across the road is quite off-putting as it's home to squatters.
The location of the hotel was perfect for us - just a 10 minute walk to the harbour front and we were able to find parking outside the hotel easily on a Saturday afternoon.
There are small cafe bars near the hotel but they were not noisy - we actually had an ouzo in one of them (small bottle) with snacks and hubby had a hotdog - we paid 6 euro for the lot which was a nice welcome change to the harbour cafeterias which charge 5 euro for a small draft beer! So I have no complaints about the small bars around the hotel.
I would definitely stay there again.

A local friend chose this hotel for us for our first visit to Greece. The location is really good, in walking distance to the Aristoteles plaza. The hotel also has reserved street parking, which was great for us because we had a rental car and were travelling with our 3 kids.
We were amazed how modern and solid the hotel was compared to a lot of rather shabby and simple places we saw. The rooms were just perfect -- we had 2 adjacent rooms with a connecting door. Everything was really clean, modern, enough space even though the rooms were not huge, balcony, modern bath (showers, no tub). Breakfast was good, too, a lot of choices, fruit, yoghurt, bread, eggs, and local pastries -- the only drawback was the coffee, rather weak, made from concentrate in a machine. The staff was friendly and helpful and spoke very good English. There was a lot of attention to detail, e.g. bringing the guests yeast rolls and hard boiled painted eggs for Easter.
We also got a good deal on the rate: there was an Easter special (88 EUR per room for the first 2 nights, then 20 EUR for the 3rd night).
We would definitely come back to the Olympia Hotel!

Great Find!, I have stayed in plenty of hotels in salonica for leisure and for business trips, but this was really good.
Modern shower, clean, comfortable bed, excellent location!....not very spacious room but i don't mind about that.
The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating. from the moment i called them to make a reservation, until check out. Breakfast was more than good and breakfast staff was present at all times.
The only negative thimg was internet. Should have been free and wi-fi throughout the whole building.
Will definately stay there again and again!

Although not near the main transport hubs of the plane, train or bus into Thessaloniki, the hotel is situated right in the middle of some of Thessaloniki's tourist sites. We walked everywhere.

As others have said, the hotel is newish, very clean, breakfast is great for a hotel of the size and price, and the women in the reception area are amongst the most helpful and genuinely friendly we have come across in a hotel of any price range. They were particularly helpful when the trains were on strike (again) and were quite happy to call the station, help us organise buses etc.

If you arrive at the hotel mid afternoon, it looks like you've come to a ghost town. Like other places in Europe, Thessaloniki shuts down for “siesta” time. This can be for 2 or 3 hours noon-3pmish. Don't let this put you off. Most places in the more tourisity part like near the beach and port, are open and in the evening the area around the hotel comes alive with the Mbit Bazaar turning into a hive of tavernas all selling wonderful fresh local food just minutes from the hotel.

Any negatives? The electricity only works when the room’s key card is inserted. That meant that when we left the room the power was off, including to the airconditioner, and so when we returned after a day of sightseeing in the heat (high 30s), it took a while before the room cooled down.

Would we come back? Absolutely! Especially to try out the new restaurant area as this was being painted while we stayed there.

Though not within walking distance to the bus station, it was situated to all the walkable sites in Thessaloniki. Taxi ride cost us as low as 5 Euros. The hotel has modern touch, very clean and chic design. Rooms and bathroom were big enough for the two of us. We had a room on the 7th floor, with a balcony facing into the port area. The surronding streets were quite quiet despit bars and restaurants steps away.
Internet cost started at 3 Euros for 45 minutes, you could even borrow the hotel laptop if needed. All in all, it was a very clean and modern place within walking distance to all the places we wanted to see in Thessaloniki.
