“Very good value for money, with pleasant, helpful staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We stayed for 5 days, and found the hotel very clean, friendly and well-run.
However, two aspects should be improved on:
1. The loud, intrusive music streamed through the lobby and the pool area.
2. The cumbersome WIFI system, which requires entering the password each time the service is used.

I booked this hotel as it had a swimming pool. It turns out the swimming pool does not open until 11 am. Also, today, in mid-September the weather had clouds and rain followed by sun. When the sun came out they refused to open the pool even when I spoke to the management. It was very disappointing.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing Capsis Hotel Thessaloniki for your recent stay in Thessaloniki.
We kindly inform you that the swimming pool is on the roof garden of the hotel, which is an open air place, exposed to the changes of the weather. The daily operating hours of the Capsis Roof Garden are 11:00 to 22:00 and it remains open for 5 to 6 months every year, under the condition that the weather is good and warm.
In case of rain and when the weather forecast predicts more rains in the day, we are obliged to close the roof garden, for the safety of our guests. The floor after the rain needs some time to dry, therefore we do not want to put our guests into risk.

Thank you once again and we hope you'll choose Capsis Hotel Thessaloniki the next time you're in Thessaloniki.

Acceptable hotel, relatively clean, good breakfast... However, its neighbourhood is ugly - not the fault of the hotel... Rooms were big with adequate aircondition. We did not have any particular problem with noise.

However, food was a dissappointment - we stayed on a half board basis. Many dishes from the previous days were "recycled" into a "new" plate, presented on the evening buffet. Further, common areas and lifts were not airconditioned!

Staff was a bit "strict" in some of our requests.

Room Tip: As long as you ensure quite, it is acceptable.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel and the general impression and sensation is not bad but definitelly not the best option in Thessaloniki.

Room was very nice and big. Beds were quite comfortable. Spacioua bathroom. Good internet location. BUT no one told us there were road works in front of the hotel. Not the best atmosphere around the hotel.

The staff was very friendly though.

Breakfast, although being buffet, was quite poor for a 4 stars.

Good swiming pool!!

Generally speaking, not bad but could be better.

The car park needs to be accessed from the rear of the hotel, which we found by trial and error and some good luck. The car park seems to be very secure.

Arrival in the lobby by lift/elevator directly from the car park. The lobby is impressive and large. Reception staff showed no warmth particularly, but were efficient. Nobody offered to take our bags, but we happily used one of three lifts/elevators.

The room we had was a small, clean, smart business-hotel type room with everything we needed. There was no scenic view or balcony. Corridors had a Greek cinema theme and there were snack vending machines by the lifts/elevators.

In order to use the gym, it was necessary to call reception to have it unlocked and to call again to have it locked when finished (you are automatically put through to a recorded message and need to press 0 again to speak to a real person). The saunas (separate ones in the male and female changing rooms) were not switched on when the rest of the gym area power was switched on for us. The gym had decent resistance training machines, some free weights up to 12kg and a number of cardio machines, mainly in a state of disrepair (cross trainer out of order, exercise bike out of order, two working treadmills). There was aircon, a stereo and a TV. The changing areas looked clean and nice and there was free toiletries and clean towels. The showers were multi-jet type and were in a state of disrepair. One of the two worked OK as a standard shower. There was a massage table in the gym area too, but no staff there.

Breakfast was good. A varied buffet of good hot and cold foods. Coffee was from a machine, self-service; juices were made from concentrate in a self-service machine.

Location is not bad. The road is completely dug up around the front of the hotel at present. You can walk fairly easily to the Ladadika district for bars and restaurants or a little way to the sea front.

Fine really for what I wanted. Shame about the broken things in the gym. Nothing particularly to shout about for this hotel.

We stayed at the Capsis Hotel for 6 nights while touring Saloniki and the area. I believe that this is the hotel with the most rooms in Saloniki. The building is unimpressive and there are no grounds around the building. Monastiriou St. is all torn up due to the building (presently halted due to the economic situation in Greece) of the subway.

Here is the breakdown:

Location: 5 stars. The hotel is conveniently located not far from the seaside and a short walk into the center of town on the main street of the city.

Staff: 5 stars. The staff is very nice and efficient.

Food: 4 stars. We were on half board. The cuisine was ok in a dining hall way.Filling but not anything to remember. It gets old after a few days.

Pool: 1 star. There is a roof pool about 10 meters long and perhaps 3 m. wide. great for a bath but not a swim.

Lobby: 4 stars. Spacious and if filled there is a sitting area outside the restaurant.

Room: 3 stars. Spacious enough, except for the bathtub/shower. The air conditioner was ancient. The insulation between rooms and with the hall leaves something to be desired. Since we were on the seventh floor we didn't get any street noise.

I didn't have time for the gym so I can't comment.

There is free wi-fi in the lobby and the rooms.

All in all I would say that this is a good base for touring but I would not recommend it if you intend to spend alot of time in the hotel.

The stuff was really nice - we had some questions about the public transport or we needed to print our flight ticket, and they could help us effectievly.
My only negative experience is that our room was not quiet at all - we couldn't fell asleep because the trafic or our neigbour's snore - wasn't relaxing.
