My boyfriend and I went to the Ektor (also known as Hector) apartments in Sidari for our second holiday In May 2011. We booked through Thomas Cook about 4 weeks before we went so we only paid around £400 each, although I can't remember the exact amount. I will break my review in to sections so you can pick and choose what you want to know aout the apartements/our stay in them.
The apartment was really spacious! I couldn't believe it when we got there, we had seperate living and bed room (which having been to a lot of greek hotels I was very happy with) They were obviously very basic, but it is Greece, if you want to go on holiday to sit in your hotel room for a fortnight don't go haha, It was so well equipped! it had a small but perfectly formed kitchen with everything you would need. The bedroom had loads of storage and a little dressing table. The bathroom although badly thought out (everytime you showered the room flooded) it did the job! it was comfortable, there was air conditioning, mosquito nets and a television.
The terrace was fabulous, from ours you looked over a medow. it was just perfect to sit on an evening and sip a cocktail or two.
Overall the apartments are so well equipped and comfortable, they are in peaceful surroundings, Perfect for couples like us! I know a few of the other reviews said their rooms weren't cleaned, ours was and it was completely satisfactory.
The pool was always beautifully clean and so were the poolside toilets. The bar and main reception was fab, we had a laugh with the guys behind the bar and the drinks cocktails were really lovely, there was a large selection of books and magazines left and swapped by other guests which I always find very useful, I read so many books whilst on holiday and never take enough.
There were safety depost boxes which were 10 euros for a week, but it's well worth it for the piece of mind. The music around the pool and in the bar was just whatever was in the charts on the music channels, even though this isn't to my boyfriend and mines taste we didn't let this ruin our holiday.
The most annoying thing about the pool is that it backs on to a main road so you get quite a lot of noisy lorries and cars going past but this really can't be helped. I imagine that in the future the hotel will build a pool to the back of the apartmens as it is sat on some beuatiful land.
Hector, Spiros and George were the perfect hosts, they always wanted to help, they were a really good laugh and Spiros even let us taste some of hig fabulous home grown olives! My boyfriend couldn't get enough!
We were self catering but didn't cook for ourselves once. The food was fantastic, the slads were huge and very delicious (especially the greek salad) everything was so reasonably priced that we ate breakfast and lunch in the hotel each day. I would deffinately reccoment stayng for the hotel BBQ, it was delicious, one of the best hotel BBQ's I have ever had, you get a starter main and dessert for about 12 euros each, you get a bit of everything and i't all cooked in front of you by the the lovely George.
Outside of the hotel you could get a fried breakfast for about 3.50 euros if you aren't a fan of continental or basic breakfasts.
I went to sidari once before when I was about 14, and it has changed a lot, it's a lot more club and bar orientated making the actual resort of sidari probably more a 'lads/girls holiday' scene, which wasn't really us so we found ourselves just sticking to the quiet pubs and bars that were a short walk for the apartments, they were all run by english famlies and they were very lovely people.
If you stay in the Ektor apartments I urge you to please eat in the restaurant opposite the entrance to the apts. 'Bavias'. I have been to greece 10 times in my life and I have never had food as good as that in my life. It is a family run restaurant which is open all year round (so not just for us tourists) It is alwasy buzzing with locals and big greek families laughing and eating together, after our first meal there we ater there the rest of the week. Try one of the mezes as you'll get so sample a bit of everything.
The beach wasn't that great to ge honest, its a little dirty and very family orientated, if you walk further away from the start of the beach you can find a quiet spot to relax.
Sidari is buzzing with shops, restaurants and bars so you will never be without something to do.
just over the road from the apartment is a supermarket and theres one on the same street so f you are wanting to cook up a storm you can buy some lovely fresh ingredients there.
Considering we went in may the weather was glorious, it was sunny most days there was only one day when it was over cast which lead to a spectacular storm which we didn't mind watching from the safety of a little cafe near the canal de amour.
So finally would I go again, the apartments were excellent, I couldn't have asked for more, but Sidari just wasn't for us, just wish we could move Ektors to somewhere a lttle less lary! but that's just us.
