5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013 via mobile

Me and my wife had such a fantastic holiday, the athina hotel was very nice and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. We definitely recommend going to yanis grill for pitta gyros, omg they were gorgeous, we had one every day.
The meals in the hotel were really good too.
The pool is the best in corfu, lovely and big. It looks right out on to the beach.
We will really miss it and definatly want to go back.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Athina and yet again we had a lovely time.
The weather was great, the food was good and as before all the hotel team were very friendly, helpful and efficient. They really do make this hotel worth revisiting.
The pool is fantastic and you never have to fight for sunbeds and the poolside restaurant serves a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices and gives a welcome break from the hot sun. The only thing that spoils the overall experience is the old pool snack bar which looks an eyesore with it's white washed windows.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the only real downside in the hotel is the condition of the rooms. The bedding and towels are clean and changed regularly and the paintwork is reasonably fresh with a pleasing lack of squashed mosquitos, but all the fixtures, fittings and bathroom is badly in need of refurbishment. The Thomson brochure states the inclusion of a "mini-fridge" in the room but this is incorrect as it is only a cool box that keeps things cool and is not suitable for chilling bottles of wine or beer. This limits your enjoyment if you fancy relaxing on the balcony looking at the stunning sea views and sunsets.
However - the positives of this hotel (including the price) far outweigh the negatives and we will definitely be returning to the Athina in the future.
Well done to all the hotel team and also Kim the Thomson rep

Room Tip: The only full sea view triple rooms are on the left corner (looking out to sea) The upper floor room...

This was our 24th visit to San Stefanos but first to Hotel Athina. The staff are very friendly especially Yiannis & George in the restaurant who we found extremely pleasant and helpful. The menu choice is very limited and the food mediocre. The rooms are a bit shabby but kept very clean with bed linen and towels being changed every day. The mattress covers are plastic & terry towelling, the plastic was hot and sticky and crunched with every movement and the towelling was very rough throught the sheet. We booked a sea view room which had a lovely view across the bay but the sun blazed into the room from noon until sunset which made the room like an oven even though we left windows open & curtains closed. The heat was unbearable especially when trying to get ready at night. Hair was soaking within minutes of drying it and makeup just slid off.So, we paid for air con 70 euro for 2 weeks. This is centrally controlled by the hotel & only cool not cold It is also switched off from 8.00pm - 10.00pm (the very time we needed it)and 10am to 2.00 pm. The hotels response when we complained was basically to get ready earlier and leave the room before 8pm. which although very inconvenient to us we had to do, or melt. Terrible customer service !! We paid for someting we didn't get when WE required it.
The hotel charge 7 euro for safety deposit boxes & 5 euro for 6 days for wifi both of which are free elsewhere in the village. The hotel beach sunbeds are 8 euro per day with 2 euro voucher to spend at the snack bar, again these can be hired much cheaper elsewhere on the beach. We have always been delighted wherever we have stayed in San Sefanos but this was a very disappointing experience.

Have recently returned from San Stefanos in Corfu..although I have visited this lovely village many times previously.it never fails to impress me!
We normally stay at the 'Thomas Bay Hotel' but as it is now 'adults only' we tried the 'Hotel Athina' for the first time as we took the grand children. Cannot fault it,staff were welcoming & helpful at all times...especially waiters George & Yannis,.Rooms were spotless, cleaned every day & sheets changed midweek..food was outstanding..plenty of choice, starter, salad, main & lovely desserts plus bread! Breakfasts were continental, also eggs of your choice, pancakes,Greek yogurt & honey...just a small extra payment for a 'full English'.

The Pool was amazing...various areas..for toddlers/children..snacks,lunches & drinks served on the decking area too! Just a step through the gate & you are on the lovely stretch of beach which is safe for children, sunbeds, pedalo's, bars/restaurants...lovely walks along the cliffs overlooking the bay...we walked over to Arillas & back via the road.

We spent most evenings in the 'Thomas Bay' for entertainment, as there was none in our Hotel other than the bar,TV & pool table...in spite of the T.Bay being adults only the children were able to use all the facilities,just not sleep there..Dominic & his team as lovely & welcoming as ever.. great to see them again & they always make us feel special! Lots going on in the village...Greek Dancing, tribute acts, karaoke etc;
A good variety of shops for gifts, clothes, handbags & jewellers, plus supermarkets!

Didnt go on any trips this time as the children were happy around the pool but some gorgeous places to visit around the Island & Corfu town is always worth a visit!!

Our only disappointment ...we couldn't stay for another week as went in school half term hols but we will DEFINITELY be back! Its like visiting old friends & we nearly always meet other folk we have seen there on holiday previously!
WELL WORTH A VISIT!!!

Room Tip: We were on the ground floor with a patio.

My husband and i have just returned from two glorious weeks at the Athina Hotel in San Stefanos. It was our first stay at this hotel and to say we werent disappointed is an understatement! Our room with a balcony overlooking the sea was just amazing..I never tired of the view! All the staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble...the food was very tasty with different choices everyday. We will certainly be returning!

Room Tip: Higher is quieter. Our seaview room was fabulous!

Well they still haven't got the correct photos on for this hotel! The travellers photos are the right ones!
Well what more can I say? I have already written 3 reviews on the ATHINA there is not a lot more I can add but will try!
We have stayed many times and always rebook on our return - at the moment I am 2 in front! We return again end of August, and are going again next May. We stayed end of May/beginning of June this year. Not a lot has changed, a couple of new bars in the village, and the sunset bar up the hill has now closed. Can recommend the Aquarius next to the hotel and also the WWW bar lovely people. Also the new Acabar is good. Someone has had a moan about the charge for the safety deposit boxes, it is only 5 euros per week, and this is the first year, I know it has always been free but we have been to other places and paid a lot more.
The staff are brilliant and we now look on them as friends, that's the way they make you feel.
The sunbeds at the Mango bar are fantastic 7.50 euros for two beds and brolly and you get an ice bucket and bottle of water.
One word of warning!!! I have never bought anything off the donut man on the beach but this time we did and NEVER AGAIN! He charged us 14 euros for 2 dishes of fruit then he short changed us, the fruit on the top looked nice but underneath it was mouldy! We binned it! Lesson learnt! We should have known because there is something on You Tube!
We love the ATHINA and San Stef can't wait to go back in August and May! Can definitely recommend. Every time we go we find something different to do, always hire a car from Manos and Dimitri. A trip into Corfu town is a must but we booked a trip to go in the evening this time, will definitely do that again. Well done to the family and staff at the ATHINA!

We have just returned from the Athina Hotel in Corfu, this was our first hoilday in Corfu having been to most of the other Islands and will certainly be going back, the staff at the Athina were very friendly, the rooms were clean with the towels being changed every day, the food could have been more imaginative but was ok. the beach was only a minute away,Cant wait for next year

Room Tip: there are 7 rooms with sea views so book early
