“Very disappointed in standard of accommodation which could be lovely.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2009

Described as self-catering but with just 2 old electric hotplates impossible to cook a meal. No breadknife, teatowel, few mugs & glasses. Wires had to cross directly over sink to reach plug. Lots and lots of little things - ice compartment completely iced up (no door), broken door handle, loo seat, toilet base cracked, cracked window, no ventilation in bathroom which opened directly into kitchen area, stained mattress, dirty bed cover, rusty airer that marked your clothes, no outside light to see keyhole. Pool area covered in weeds, grass several inches long. There was no kettle when we arrived and the owner/manager was very rude and disinterested, and responded to our request with 'where do you expect me to buy a kettle on a Sunday'.

Such a shame because the actual building, layout, pool area etc. and location is excellent. and it could be so nice with a lot more care and attention. I know it was the end of the season, but that's no excuse. The floors were cleaned regularly and the towels & sheets changed regularly too so it was basically very clean but nobody could be bothered even to fit a lightbulb. Not worthy of Cosmos 3 diamond rating.

my wife and I stayed a couple of weeks in a one bedroom apartment and found the accommodation very good. Bins emptied and flat swept daily, linen change twice a week.
we only ate in for breakfast , other meals at a village 'taverna' of which there was a very good choice.
Katelios is small and quiet -which is what we wanted. The beach isn't as good as the one we walked to by going down the village street, turning left and crossing the headland. Called 'Mounda' beach I think . Long stretch of super sand and a very good beach cafe. Very well worth the effort.
Unusually for us we went on the Isalnd tour and the day trip to Ithaki. Fascinating
Overall enjoyed ourselves.
(Only ate by the pool once at lunch time and the 'boss man' fine!!)

Reception sign at entrance should have the word Frosty written above it because that is what my wife got. When my wife told Mr grumpy we were stopping there she was told "room **, key is in the door" nothing else.
Room was very clean & very tidy no problem there. Next problem was no light bulb on bedside light so next day asked young chap behind bar for bulb he said "ok " nothing happened. Following day asked Mr charisma by-pass who seems to spend his entire day sitting behind his desk shouting down his phone or looking grumpy. His very rude answer to my wife was "why do you need a light you have 5 in your room". anyway on the 3rd day asked the maid and she got a bulb in minutes. Next the pool, had a vey end of season look about it lots of weeds growing through slabs which don't appear on recent photo's and didn't see the pool being cleaned once. Heard the same comments from other people. Next there was the bar, we have been to Greece lots of times and they are normally buzzy places not this time the bar area was totally deserted except for the barman. Then the morning came to leave there was not a single member of staff to tell us what to do with our key. Would like to add the room was cleaned thoroughly every day and towels replaced midweek. Also previous reviews have complained about showers/plumbing, but this was not different to any other Greek hotel apart from sometimes water stopped completely.
Summing up the appartments i would say they are potentially very good but having a grumpy owner who seems to upset people this will not help its future.
Kefalonia and Katelios itself is a lovely place and apart from 1 the people are very friendly. There are some really good restaurants on the sea front. The beach at Antisamos (the one in the shower scene in captain correlli) is paradise itself. A car is a must to see the best if the Island.

Katelios is a great place and the Blue Sea Apartments is the best in the area. People from other hotels and apartments spend the day at the Blue Sea Apartments where the pool is the main attraction, a great bar, lovely food, friendly staff and free internet. Our apartment was cleaned everyday with fresh towels. You can walk from the Blue Seas down to the harbour in a few minutes where you have the beach, a variety of restaurants and taverna's, somewhere to hire a boat and you can sit in the evening with an Ouzo and the stars! Thoroughly recommend Katelios and the Blue Sea Apartments.

we wanted a holiday where we could relax and do nothing. In Katelios we could do just that. If we had wanted to go off on trips, hire cars and explore the island then the facilities were there and we could have done that BUT our accommodation at the Blue Sea apartments was just too wonderful. The pool was great with a lovely atmosphere and a variety of friendly folk to chat to and swap books with. A short walk down the road and we were in the heart of the town with a strip of about 15 - 20 bars and restaurants. Some of the best food we had was at the Katelios Taverna, Ammos and Jerry's (This one is opposite the Blue Sea Apartments) and we can recommend a friendly wellcome and cheap beer at Aliti's (Along with the best loos in the area!). The beach is not great but hiring a boat for the day is a must. the boat was 115 euros for 4 people and another 25 euros for petrol. We stopped off at some gorgeous little beaches along the way and one of our friends caught a fish. The best way to end a wonderful holiday. Lots of the people we met go there every year and told us the best places to go and where to find things. Everyone really friendly and made our holiday very special.

We had a wonderful week in Katelios and recommend it to anyone wanting to unwind and experience Greece as it should be experienced. We stayed at the Blue Sea apartments, they are in a perfect location and the staff were very nice and helpful. The rooms are basic, but there are quite a few options for eating out. Once we discovered the Aburo restaurant we ate there for 4 nights. Our table was on the seafront, you get a spectacular view to dine to, especially when the moonlight hits the ocean . We will be returning to katelios, but next time ensure that we don't leave ouselves in the hands of COSMOS - just so it's perfect!

The apartment was very clean and the daily maid service was brilliant. The bathroom was one of the best we've found in Greece with a shower that worked and lots of hot water! The swimming pool was gorgeous and there were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas. The ladies' loo at the pool needed a light bulb but I guess we all know what we're doing even in the dark! Bar was well stocked but go up the road to the mini-market to buy crisps unless you're happy to pay nearly double. Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat here but Jerry's across the road was excellent, as was Ostria on the beach. Don't expect any nightlife - that's the whole point of staying in Katelios - it's more developed than it was six years ago but still very quiet and laid-back. The beach is nothing much to look at but the sea is warm, clear and beautiful - however, take some 'adventure sandals' and clamber over the rocks (following the blue plastic bag markers) to the next beach for empty, wide-open sands. For car-hire try Kostas at Venus just up the road - all new cars, small one for 50 Euros per day with no hidden charges. If you go anywhere you must visit Myrtos Bay (to swim in the turquoise water not just gaze in wonderment!) and Assos (the posh end of the island).
Pros: No yobs, no drunks, no football shirts, pretty flowers and birdsong.
Cons: Adjacent road can be a bit intrusive when trying to sleep off the Ouzo.
