Stayed here in June 2012 - booked a late deal with Thomson and flew from Brum.
We didn't take transfers and booked our own car, which we were glad of as the hotel is a good 30 min walk outside of the main beach resort, but that was nice also as it was quiet and not too busy. The hotel also put on a free bus service to the resort, be sure to book as this got very popular.
The hotel was lovely, always space by the pools, lovely grounds. Wasn't impressed with the breakfast, it was orange squash not orange juice and there was a huge queue each morning with not much room in the dining room - the terrace however was lovely. Bar staff were all polite. Loved the chicken kebab at the little snack shop in the hotel - and the salads were GORGEOUS! I cannot express how spectacular the views are on the island and from the grounds in the hotel - such a picturesque landscape was stunning!
We were located about half way up the hotel up about two flights of stairs and had no issue going to our room a few times a day. The patio was nice also to relax on, although we mostly used it for drying clothes!
Check in and out was very smooth and friendly also, always someone on at reception to answer any queries!A nice touch was the free wi-fi in reception.
Our Thomson rep was lovely! Tess from Isle of Wight! She also lived at the San G while we were there, was on hand everyday to talk about the best areas to go to on the island, where to eat, we booked extra flight legroom with her seamlessly too. She really was how a Thomson rep should be, playing with the kids and being thrown into the pool, and a great lively welcome evening.
The rooms were kept clean, air con was very cold, english news channels and a cold fridge was a good touch. Also a bath with a powerful shower over which were both kept very clean.
We fell in love with Kefalonia, and as we had a car, took full advantage to explore most of the 'top sites' on the island - Myrtos beach, Argostoli, Fiscardo etc. The beach at Skala was nice, and our favourite restaurant to eat was at Old Times, good value for money for the amazing food and friendly service we received. The island really is amazing, the people friendly and the views stunning! It was our first time to a Greek Island and we will definitely be back! A tip, you can see sea turtles swimming in the bay in Argosoli everyday if you get in before 10.30 when the fishing boats come back to port and the turtles float around for scraps! It was magical seeing them so close up.
We will definitely be back at the San G if we can get a good Thomson deal again - and will be back in Kefalonia as soon as we can!!
