I am currently sat on the balcony looking out to sea in high 30 degree heat. It’s my first stay at Utopia but have visited the snack bar, which is part of the building, many times during my numerous visits to Parga. I read the reviews which were pretty good and have friends who have stayed here many times, so decided to give it a go. The room referred to in the post 2nd July is probably misleading now as their visit was in 2010 and the rooms were refurbished last year.
I’m in the same room as is referred to, Room 2. It is the smallest of the rooms but that is compensated by having a very private side sea view. It is also cheaper than most other rooms.
Facilities: The bathroom shower is a double cubicle with a fixed (not hand held) rose. There is a ‘hotel style’ hair dryer in there too. The kitchen area as noted, doesn’t have loads of space but it now has a double ceramic hob with cooker hood, a built in microwave oven with grill, electric kettle and toaster. There is a flat screen TV with satellite service (if you need it) and Wi-Fi. The side balcony gets full sun most of the day but can be protected by the electrically operated canopy. The overall décor is very modern and is now nowhere near basic. Tall double wardrobe with drawers (and safe), dressing table and mirror, double bed and bedside tables all in light wood.
There are now 7 rooms in the building (there used to be 5) and all can be booked via Thomas Cook (Manos). There is a clause in the contract however that allows the owner, Demitris, to rent out rooms himself if Thomas Cook have not guaranteed a booking on a room 2/3 weeks in advance, He can be contacted via his web site www.utopia.com.gr The rooms vary in size and the number of people that can be accommodated.
The rooms are cleaned 7 days a week , with towel and linen changes every 3 days.
The town beach is about 20 metres from the accommodation so ideal for a snack or an ice cream when it gets a bit hot on the beach. There is a good range of snacks and ice creams available in the snack bar along with draught or bottled beers and soft drinks, and it’s an ideal last stop before climbing a few stairs to your room at night.
So my view, clean, modern accommodation with on site facilities in an excellent (flat) location, run by very helpful friendly people.
