We have just got back from two weeks in Parga and we can’t recommend the Harmony Resort highly enough. The apartment was simple, clean and in an excellent location. What made Harmony special was the hospitality extended by George and Nori. We were made to feel so welcome. George and Nori are both musicians and we were fortunate enough to attend the music festival in Parga Harbour which George had organised. As some of the performers were staying at the Harmony resort, George also held an evening of Indian music by the pool at which Nori and some of the musicians from the festival played. Nori is a brilliant flautist and it was a magical evening which we felt very privileged to attend.
As for the accommodation itself, it had everything we needed. The chlorine free pool was excellent, and by late afternoon we had the pool to ourselves. There was a pleasant 15 minutes’ walk into Parga which had a good range of tavernas. We took a water taxi to Valtos Beach a couple of times during our stay – it’s a pleasant (though uphill walk) back into Parga from Valtos or you can get the water taxi back.
However, if you only take one excursion during your stay, go down to the harbour and take the water taxi across the bay and down the Acheron River (which in Greek mythology was known as the Styx). It’s a brilliant trip and the Acheron River is so beautiful. On the way back the boat actually goes into the caves (with inches to spare on either side) and then stops off at Lichnos Beach where you can stay for the remainder of the day and catch any water taxi back to Parga. Lichnos beach is OK but not as pleasant as Valtos. The cost of this trip was only €12 per person and worth it at twice the price.
There are many excellent tavernas in Parga including Yannis (only five minutes from Harmony down the road into Parga), Zorba’s and Kyma (opposite the pier) though our favourite meal was at Stakis taverna which is up near the castle (past the Romantica which is also very good). The walk up to the castle is worth the climb and the views over Parga are fabulous. There is also a very pleasant café inside the castle itself.
We loved Parga and will go back, and when we do, we would not dream of staying anywhere other than the Harmony Resort.
