We made a last-minute booking at Apollo Studios for five nights in September. The friendly owner, Andreas, accommodated us cheerfully, meeting us two days later at the 8 am ferry and accompanying us back to the hotel to leave our bags. He pointed out good restaurants for breakfast along the way, and said we could check in at 9:30 am. Sure enough, when we returned, the room was freshly cleaned and spotless, with the tile floors still damp. We suspect that the previous occupants had just left on that same ferry!
Andreas proudly showed us our room. Over the past few years, this energetic, hard working young man has totally renovated the rooms at Apollo Studio. Everything inside the building is new and of the highest quality, including the flooring, windows, doors, and all furniture and fixtures. For a very reasonable price, we had air conditioning, a small kitchenette, a large patio with table and chairs, TV, and wi-fi in our room. We were very impressed.
The first night, we found our pillows to be a bit firm. We asked Andreas if he had any others, and he said he has extra firm, firm, soft and very soft! We chose very soft, and when we came back from the beach that day, we had very comfortable pillows on our bed. And the next time Andreas saw us, he asked if these pillows were OK. He was genuinely concerned for our comfort.
Apollo Studios has a great location. A few blocks in one direction is the harbor and travel agency. The bus stop is just across the street from the hotel. A short walk in the opposite direction takes you to the bakery (where you can buy huge, fresh croissants for breakfast), the ATM, the supermarket, the beach and restaurants.
Livadia has a rocky beach, so "beach shoes" are helpful to get into the water. There's a long strip of restaurants, coffee shops, gift shops, hotels, etc. along this "beach." Almost everyplace has sunbeds and umbrellas which are free to use if you purchase something. We found our favorite to be at the far end of the beach. There's a tree for shade, and padded sunbeds, and a little restaurant serving salads, sandwiches and drinks. For 1 euro, we would get a large bottle of water and two plastic glasses of ice, and settle down with our books!
Tilos is the kind of place that grows on you, as is Apollo Studios. We highly recommend it.
