“Out standing views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

Our room was situated right in front of the complex with great views of the Agean Sea. The apartments are small but clean with great views. Olivera took care of all our needs and helped us with our stay, recommending places to rent scooters from and where to eat. Of all the islands we have visited in Greece, we will come back to Patmos to vacation and will deffinately stay at 9 Muses. You are far enough from town to be away from the noise and crowds, but close enough to run in and get something to eat. The views from our veranda was great.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, ask for one with a view higher up.

It was our 2nd holiday on Patmos and our 1st stay at 9Muses. The location is really beautiful and by far the best place to stay on Patmos at least if you are looking for a secluded place not to far from Skala (the port) or Chora (village around the monastery), both are between 3 to 4 km distance.
From the reservation onwards we were impressed by the efficiency of the manager, Olivera, who is really a nice person able to give a lot of tips about the island, restaurants etc. She picked us up at the arrival of the ferry boat at 7.30 am in the morning and 10 minutes later we were at the hotel enjoying a fantastic breakfast with home made baggles, yoghurt, eggs... Room was already available which is a big plus at this hour of the day and after a night on the ferry (cabin or not).
Rooms are very nice and comfortable with some old furniture right and there, all have a nice spacious terrace or balcony with fantastic sea views. Don't hesitate to follow Olivera's advice about your room choice as apparently she found us a bit "stubbern" that we had decided for "Polimnia" which is close to the pool so there is some "traffic" from other guests but who cares for a place with only +- 12 rooms in total?
For those who care about cleanliness, nothing to worry about. Housekeeping is doing a great job and the ladies are extremely polite. From an environmental point of view it might be questionable if it is necessary to change bedlinnen and towels every day, i would leave the decision to the guests...
We also enjoyed the pool a lot especially in the morning before going to the beach or even in the evening with a refreshing drink at the bar, we were almost alone every time. Only negative point was the lack of shadow as the umbrellas have been destroyed during a winter storm but they have been ordered, so no worries for your stay later in the season or next year.
To resume it was a perfect holiday and this place & the kindness of the management & staff contributed a lot. Don't hesitate to book at 9 Muses if you are planning to go to Patmos which is a beautiful place even at peak season and this compared to other accommodations (even more upscale), the location beats them all. Before I forget there is a nice little beach (mostly pebbles) down the street which we unfortunaley discoverd only the last day, perfect for a morning swim or even in the afternoon with a lot of shadow.
At last but not least, don't hesitate do ask Olivera a copy of her husband's book about Patmos, it contains a lot of outsider tips about places to visit, the history of the island and much more.
Enjoy Patmos & the 9 Muses.

I love patmos and this was my second trip on the island. This time, I stayed at the 9 Muses hotel which I found great. Beautiful location, calm, silent with a fantastic view and a very pleasant pool. The small apartment was also very much up to my expectations, confortable and very clean and nicely furnished with a nice balcony overlooking the sea. This is a great place to rest, swim and spend a fantastic holiday. The service was indeed excellent, both in the rooms and at breakfast nicely served on the pool. By the way, if you like greek yoghourt and home made breads, you will enjoy your breakfast at 9 Muses! And to conclude, a great manager runs the place in a very professional manner and gives great hints on how to enjoy the island!

The 9 Muses is simply a wonderful place to stay. Fantastic views of the sea, totally quiet, very nice appointed houses/appartments, a great pool, excellent breakfast and a unusually friendly and effective service from Olivera (the manager & owner). She upgraded us without extra charge, negotiated very attractive car rental fees, and let us have our appartment before and long after the check-in and check-out times.
I have been to Patmos 8 times before, being my favourite Mediterranian location, but this was my first time at 9 Muses. It Is by far the best place I have stayed at in Patmos. Highly recommended to all visiting this island except those whose requirements are to stay in town or at the beach directly since this is a couple of km outside Scala.
It should also be noted that the hotel has new owners/management which could explain some of the earlier negative feedback.
Again, a wonderful place that meets every expectation of a romantic, beautiful greek island scenary. I will definitely go back.

Just returned from 3 delicious weeks in Patmos and at the 9 Muses. The hotel was as wonderful as ever and the manager, Kostas, and his staff were great. We've now stayed here for a number of years but still marvel at the absolute beauty of the location and the great value of the 9 Muses. Breakfast is great and the pool and gardens are beautiful. You need a car or scooter to be here but why would you not want one on Patmos?

This is our 10th year in Patmos and we really wonder about the ratings given to some of the other hotels. Nothing whatsoever beats this location, cleanliness and value. If you have not been to Patmos you are missing a big piece of heaven.

We were met promptly on arrival at the dock by the car the hotel had arranged to pick us up and 15 minutes later, we were eating a copious Greek breakfast poolside with one of the best views I'd ever seen. Christina, the manager, and the other staff were endlessly cheerful and helpful with information and suggestions (how could they not be, working in a place this stunning?). The accommodations are nice, big and clean, but basic with just some pretty, antique furniture, tile floors and bare, white-washed walls. You would probably expect a little more luxury for the price in general, but you're on a remote and idyllic Greek island surrounded by a sprinkling of billionnaires' villas and that comes at a price. The hotel is a jumble of little buildings, walkways and gardens, and all the rooms have big terraces and amazing sea views. There is a large, sparkling pool and a couple of big shaded terraces for lounging and watching the boats come in and out. The location is a little remote, but the tranquility you get is worth it and you need a scooter or car to explore the island anyway. All three major towns and the best beaches are no more than a few minutes panoramic drive. The hotel doesn't serve lunch or dinner (except by special request the day before) but restaurant options abound and are inexpensive, and there are small kitchens in the rooms if you don't want to brave the roads in the dark. There is also satellite TV and free WiFi, but why would you waste your time with those things?! The sampler of Korres bathroom products was excellent.

Patmos is a great island, with a relaxing atmosphere. Will return for sure! -at another hotel
The positives for the hotel:
- Nice location. Needs car or scooter, but a bit away from the port's fuss
- Very nice rooms and decoration. Nice sea view
- Excellent cleaning staff. Very thorough and friendly
- Full and generous breakfast served by the pool with a nice view. Friendly and accommodating staff (cook & waitress)
And the negatives:
- The number 1 major issue we faced was the poor sound insulation of our room. The room was named "Zeus" and we were told it was the second season it was operating. There was an inside door leading to the room next to it. Our neighbors were a friendly middle-aged Italian couple and we were able to hear the man's snoring in the night. The first two days we woke up pretty early when they turned on the TV. Then we discussed the issue with them and practically they did their best not to bother us again, which was very helpful for us to enjoy the rest of our holidays. We were also obliged to do the same and were very careful when opening, closing, doors, windows, whispering to each other. The most annoying thing was the hotel's manager denial of ever having any complaint from another customer. The hotel's owner was very polite but he also denied ever hearing of the problem before. From a practical point of view they did nothing for us to ease our dissatisfaction and show us they truly care for our holidays and value our business.
- The plumbing is terrible in the way that, opening or closing of a tap in our room, the room next to ours or even two rooms away produced an annoying squeaking noise
- The pool was not working for almost a week due to a mechanical part's failure
- The breakfast is exactly the same every day
- The breakfast serving area is swarmed with bees and wasps
- When the hotel's owner is not in Patmos i.e. staying at his hotel, nobody is around after 14.00.
