“Nice museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

The position of the Monastery on the top of the mountain is perfect for pictures. And it's museum is Very Nice. Didn't like the short opening hours and the face that we visit just a fracione of the whole place.

“So much history!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

Coaches and cars have to park at the bottom of the hill and you have to walk up steep, cobbledstoned roads and steps to the entrence. It is not for the fainthearted!!
Once you get up to the monastery it is amazing. There are so many rooms, chapels and the exhibition you could spend several hours there. It does get very busy with day trippers from other islands, so get there early to beat the rush.

“The experience didn't meet expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

The monastery is -- obviously -- a primary reason why many people travel to Patmos. We happened to be there for a wedding and decided to go because of the history and uniqueness of it all. It is interesting, don't get me wrong, and I know a lot of pilgrims and the very devout have wonderful experiences, but going as neither, I thought it was just OK.

There is no opportunity to learn about the history of what happened, or the writings themselves. It's a simple cave with some ancient artifacts and candles. I would have loved to have learned ore.
