After booking our holiday to Kos we couldn't find much information about things to do/see there. So we went exploring and here's what we enjoyed:

Kardemena - based 10 minutes from the airport, to the south of the island. Probably the best place in Kos for young people to party. The night fully kicks off at about 9pm and continues on to the early hours. There's literally hundreds of bars there, with lots of young British people either working in or visiting them. This is an ideal location for teens to have their first holiday without the folks. However Kardemena isn't all about the bars. During the day it's a nice town to eat in and shop for souvenirs.

Kos Town - nice for a visit, but very busy and full of traffic and tourists. It has a lovely harbour and there's plenty of places to eat, along with some archaeological sites. The castle is a bit of a disappointment though as it's quite small and pricey to enter.

Kefalos - a very quiet part of the island and probably best suited to older couples. Not particularly exciting enough to go out of your way to visit, but one place there does a cracking banana and chocolate crepe!

Bubble/Paradise Beach - also located to the south of Kos. Another good place for youngsters and those who enjoy watersports (excluding windsurfing and sailing, which is slightly further along the coast).

Limionas Beach - a fantastic and quiet location to spend some time on the sand, located to the north of Kos. The sea is also lovely to swim in here as it's calm and a bit like the Dead Sea, as you can just float on your back without moving and there's no risk of sinking.

Zia - this is the only place we found information about before we travelled. It claims to be a little old town at the top of a mountain with great sunsets. Well we didn't experience the sunset as we went in the middle of the day, however, it's nice enough with great views. The street is completely lined with one souvenir shop after another which slightly ruins the beauty of the place and makes it seem a bit tacky, but the views are good enough to warrant a visit.

In the main a flat, not particularly scenic island but with good beaches. Some the of bigger resorts cater for fast-food and lively night life; Kardemena is one such place and is a bit on the scruffy side.
My wife and I like walking and Kos disappoints in this regard, having a limited choice of challenging walks both inland or coastal.
Been to most of the Greek islands and Kos is certainly one of the least impressive.

Back to Mastihari for the second year running, and another week of bliss. The room was simple, yet immaculately kept, our host was obviously proud of her apartments in the village.

The welcome from everyone was fantastic, and the weather was perfect, not a cloud all week!

All the tavernas were of a high standard, but the one which stood out this year was undoubtedly THE TRADITIONAL HOUSE. Superb food, produced from the family farm, wine as good as we tasted all week, and we were invited into the kitchen to choose from the "specials".

We will almost certainly be back next year, but for a longer stay!

Visited the island of Kos in August this year, staying in Lambi.

The island of Kos or should i say Kos Grand Prix, as i've never seen so many
bikes of all desriptions zooming around the island. They range from the push
bike, prefered by the host of Dutch tourists to scooters both 2 and 4 wheel. I
have to say take any 2 week window of my 31 years on this earth and i dont think
i would have seen as many injuries to limbs as i did whilst at Kos, i'm sure
this may have something to do with the multitude of bikes and fast cars on the
island.....Beware!

Lambi itself was slightly run down and although it was my first time, there are
remnants of once occupied premises catering for food and drink, leaing behind
the empty shell of the building.
Walking into Kos from Lambi you still pass a number of bars / cafes / resturants
and i have to say some of them were my favourite whilst staying there. Worthy of
a mention are George Garden, Sun Set and The Farm.

Walking into the centre of Kos Town took about 20 minutes on foot and only cost
1 Euro on the bus. Once in the centre my advice would be to make your way to the
Old Town as there really is'nt anything to write home about else where, although
the harbour is a very colourful walk on a nighttime.

The Old Town is steeped in character and has many small winding streets with a
plethora of small stores and shops to buy gifts for home. At the top of Old Town
is where most of the resturants are housed and there is something for everyone.
I must mention the Italian section of the Old Town as it occupies one of the
finest Italian resurants i've visited Ozze & Mezzo.

In the middle of Old Town is the islands museum and indoor market, albeit a very
small one. However from here you can enter the Ancient Town where you walk past
a historical Angora, a once village built during the Roman occupation. This
leads onto the famous Hippocratus tree and the castle which are worthy of a
visit.

Other parts of the island i visited are Takaki, where the beach is superb, far
superior than the ones at Lambi and Kos. The sea is shallow for metres and the
sand golden and mostly free from stones.

Whilst there my family also visited Turkey twice, once to Turkgutries on a
Saturday for its market and then to Bodrum. I much prefered Turgutries as its a
slower pace but still offered the bizaar. If its the fake goods your after
Bodrum does hold more choice.

The 3 island tour is also worth a look at and there are many boats on the
harbour willing to take you out. My family travelled on the Posiedion and i
couldnt fault the day.

There are many places i didnt visit and wanted to which is why i will return to
this lovely island
