“Wow, the food and ambiance!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

After opening in 2013 with great reviews it was about time to visit ourselves.

A combination of nice (white) furniture, nice and cosy tables, a great seaview, friendly and helpfull staff and really awesome food (for instance little croquettes from cod-fish as a starter and a perfect galaktaboureko as a dessert) made us want to go again asap! The experience was almost perfect.

The second visit (about 1,5 week later) was nice, but less perfect. It was more busy and somehow it seemed chaotic, plates for our party of 4 where not served at the same time, ordered sauces where forgotten and it was hard to order new drinks. It was busy, but that's never a excuse.

For the owners: people love your restaurant, specialized in fish. But within a party of more people there are always people who are less font of fish of simply don't like it at all. Add some extra choices on the menu for those people (the chicken with baconsauce is awesome though) :-)

“Very good restaurant in Kos town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2014

Very good restaurant next to the sea in Kos town. Simi shrimps, eggplant mousse, sea bass sashimi, fava with truffle oil, grilled octopus and grilled cheese with tomato marmalade and spaghetti with shrimp are my favorite dishes.
Good service and the owner Chris is a great host.

“The best pork fillet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2014

Although I am coming to Barbouni since day one, I never had the opportunity to taste the incredible pork fillet. I reccomend this dish with no second thoughts!!! The pork fillet is served with bearnez sauce and mashed potatoes! Just give it a try!!!

“Could not care less!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2014

My friends and my wife and I ate in this Restaurant twice. On the first occasion we could not fault it so we all returned on the last night of our holiday - what a difference! I ordered the grilled Calamari with feta sauce - when it arrived it was inedible, just like trying to chew a car tyre - I sent it back and they replaced it over half an hour later with deep fried Calamari which werw equally unchewable - that went back also by which time we gave it up as a bad job and paid the bill. As well as that my Wife asked for Gambas only to be told they hadn't got any so she settled for Crayfish which were tiny without much meat but guess what - a family of Greeks came to the next table and hey presto big fat Gambas were served!
The other annoying thing was that at no time did any of the staff have the manners to apologise for the food or service and it wasn't as though we hadn'nt given them a decent tip on our first visit - thet just could not give a damn!

Sotiria_ediar, Public Relations Manager at Barbouni, responded to this review, June 30, 2014
Dear Sir,
First off all I am quite surprised with this review since i know the circumstance personally and although we usually don't respond to the reviews this time i want to clarify this situation.
Yes, i do confirm that you came twice, on your second visit your order included two (2) portions of grilled calamari the one got consumed without any problem and the second got returned after a request of your waiter to replace your "inedible" calamari with something else of your choice. At the same time our chef (who taste every return from our guests in order to know the matter personally) informed as that the calamari was a bit hard but only because of its freshness and that there wasn't any matter of replacement. This didn't stopped us from requesting to change your dish with something else in order to make you feel better so your second choice was calamari again.
Secondly, regarding your wife's "gambas" i would like to point that by the time the waiter came to take your order and after letting you some time to see our english menu she told him that she would like to have some fresh shrimps from the fridge display outside our restaurant, then the waiter informed her that the one that she saw with the claws weren't shrimps but crayfish and she told him that she want it to try them.
You are referring to a table of Greeks that they were eating some huge shrimps in a table near you so i checked my database for a similar order to you nearby. Guess what they were Italians and they had ordered for grilled shrimps a plate written in our english menu that you could easily choose yourself . So no discrimination from us nor to your table or to your Nation.
When you are commenting on "GAMBAS" i can only but guess that you are referring to a warm appetizer that you choose again from our ENGLISH menu that is described as Fried baby shrimps from Symi island. The word itself (baby) clarify the measurement of the shrimps that you expect to see on your table after your order.
To conclude i would like to add to this respond that not only you didn't pay for the first "inedible" calamari but also you got a discount to your whole order, you had free dessert offered to all of you on the house and also the owner himself explained to you that the calamari when fresh is a bit harder that the one freeze and apologize personally for any inconvenience we might caused you .
I am deeply DISAPPOINTED from you personally since we really did our best (the staff and the management of the restaurant) to leave you with a "good taste" on your last dinner in Kos island and especially at Barbouni but the only thing that you decided to do when you returned home was to write inaccuracies.
So ,to conclude, next time you decide to write a review on Tripadvisor PLEASE BE A BIT MORE OBJECTIVE and this is not from the point of view of an owner who really cares about his business but from a user of TRIPADVISOR himself who want to be informed objectively about any place of interest he might want to visit. THANK YOU.
