“You get what you pay for, but we had a great holiday”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

We were a group of 4 who booked the holiday 5 weeks before departure and were looking for a cheap holiday in a fun and lively resort. Having read the other reviews prior to departure we were not expecting much but were pleasantly surprised, the pool was clean and spacious with plenty of sunbeds (Most people don't surface till gone 3 so no trouble there!) the rooms are basic but you just have to accept you get what you pay for!! Whilst it is classed as self-catering there are no cooking facilities, kettle or toaster. You also have to provide your own toilet roll which since returning home I understand is normal in self-catering accommodation.

On arrival at 5am we were met by the night porter who checked us in and showed us to our rooms, he took our passports for only 10 mins and then returned them to us, we were offered Air conditioning for €35 per week, we didn't opt for it but in hindsight it would probably have been worth it! The safe was only €10 for the week and definitely worth it as we had a habit of leaving our door open! The hotel manager is really nice and got to know us and most other guests by name in our week. The bar prices are a little bit more expensive then outside in other bars but you don’t expect them to be giving them away, the food was good and cooked to order and was reasonably priced.

The hotel is smack bang in the middle of everything and the beach, restaurants and bar street are only a few minutes’ walk away. We went to a restaurant called Alexanders nearly every night which we would recommend.

We were on a Twentys holiday and we would recommend this hotel to any young group of people who want a drunken week in the sun!!!!

Where to start?

Basically, your passports will be taken so that the manager can blackmail you into paying for stuff - she wanted to charge us 20 euros for having a messy room. The manager is completely unreasonable and argumentative. She wont allow you to have water which you didn't buy from her bar down by the pool. To give you an indication of prices you can either buy 6 1.5L bottles for 1.50 or buy a 500ml for one euro from her bar. One day, loads of new guests came in and of course weren't aware of this rule so she just went around the pool taking their water off of them, didn't even give them a chance to take it back to their rooms. Another example of her ignorant attitude is when she tried to charge the 3 lads in the room next to us 50 euros for their door coming off its hinges, even though it was already broken when we got there. She also charged another group of guys 180 because she thought it was them who threw a glass bottle into the pool, she didn't have any proof at all but they were forced to pay.

The cleaner isn't really worthy of the title 'the cleaner', all she did was take our rubbish out. Throughout the week our bed linen wasn't changed once and the floors weren't cleaned properly either. Our cutlery wasn't even clean when we got there.

Also, when mine and my mates phones and ipods were stolen she just didn't want to know about it and was so unhelpful in advising us what to do.

Kardamena is a brilliant resort and we all had a brilliant week but just don't come to this hotel.

Firstly our room...When we first arrived in our rooms the sheets were dirty with brown/red stains on the pillow cases/bed sheets/blankets. For a self-catering apartment there was no cooker or even a kettle, there were only 3 mugs and 4 plates - all of which were dirty upon arrival. The rooms do not come with toilet roll so you will need to go out and buy some. The air conditioning and use of the safe is NOT included in the price of your room, each costs an additional 5 euros per room member. Overall, the room was terrible, it was filthy and, considering these apartments are considered self catered - there was no form of heating equipment what so ever.

Now onto the pool area. The pool itself it great, seems clean and the water was a refreshing temperature after spending time sun bathing on one of the many sun beds on the side. There was also a pool table that was 1euro a game, not great but it was okay for a few games. The worst thing about the pool was its "no outside food or drink to be brought to the pool" policy. This even applied to water which was espicially annoying when you had to run up to your room to get water constantly. Yes, they did have a bar area that did sell drinks and food, however, it would be totally un-useable unless you had a budget of 600+ euros. 2.50 euros for a 500ml bottle of water comparted to 50 cent for a 1.5 litre water at the local shop. A bottle of beer was 3 euros compared to 1.10 euro at the shop. The food was also extremely unreasonable, 4 euros for a cheese toastie - thats enough money to split a pizza. Having questioned the manager on this she explained that daphne apartments and blue pool are seperate, yet her tryant like reign controls both complexes.

Continuing on about the manager, she was a nightmare to reason with. Having arrived there, she effectively forced us to buy the safe or, as she said in her words "your valuable *will* be stollen". We watched her fine this group of boys 100 euros for throwing up in the corridor even after they had cleaned it up. Having not bought anything from the blue pool bar, on the 3rd day she complained that we were being extremely rude for not buying from her bar and threatening to kick us out as the maintenance of the pool relied on the bars income, so, unless you expect to pay stupidly increased prices at her bar, be prepared for an argument. With her running the place, i was just glad to get my passport back at the end - her collateral.

An extra point i forget to mention, our mates in the second room had there psp, ipod(s) and phone(s) stollen after making sure they locked the door every night. They had the safe and were 100% sure they had the door locked. They may have mucked up but all our gut feelings were was that the manager stole them, as they went missing during the night of our argument.

Room Tip: When you're out there buy some antiseptic wipes and try and get hold of a kettle.

I booked this hotel for me and my boyfriend , we only payed £202 each for TWO weeks, which was literally the cheapest last minute deal I could find on the net!
The hotel was basic, which we didnt mind as we had payed so little for it. The cleaner came in everyday but only changed the bedding and towels a few times when we were there.
Pool was great! The pool bar prices were okay (not really cheap but pretty standard), we made the most of happy hour 6-8 every day- two for one on some drinks!! Its a Twentys hotel so they had activites (such as bar crawls, boat parties, school discos) which we didnt take part in. We did attend the hotel BBQ though, which was fun and a great way to meet other people in the hotel. There is a fair bit of noise in the hotel when people go out and come in from nites out but you've got to expect that in a Twentys hotel!
Its in a good location as its about 5 mins walk from the strip and beach so not too noisey but close enough!
We had a great holiday, really enjoyed Kardamena, hotel was basic and budget but just what we expected and wanted!! But bare in mind we went in June which is still fairly out of season, so Im not sure what it would be like there when everyone finishes University and school! Weather was great and staff were friendly!

We went on a "lads holiday" to Kos, and stayed at Daphne Apts. and Blue pool. We were on a budget as we are all students so we weren't expecting much, however the hotel was simply under par. The place was unclean, one of the first experiences seeing dried sick on the back of the front door. The pool bar is overpriced with drinks almost double what you can get in the bars and constant harassment from the manager round the pool grows tiresome. The pool is nice, however speaking to a couple their they said this was their third year staying there, and that it had recently come under new management this year and that they would not be coming back. Arriving back home I came down with impetigo, the doctor stating it usually passed on due to unwashed bed linen, with the beds not being changed at all on our stay I am more than certain it was down to Daphne Apt. at the Blue Pool uncleanliness.

we stayed in the daphne apartments and had a great holiday. The apartments were lovely and big and everything was really accessible. The Blue Pool (below the apartments) is fantastic, the food and service there is great and really good value for money. I've heard that the Daphne apartments are under new management this year (actually being run by those that run the Blue Pool), so we're deinitlyy booking to go back later this year with lowcost hoildays.
