“perfect little island, perfect place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2008

This is the ideal place to stay on Astypalaia. It is a group of small houses, each decorated differently yet sharing the same greek island charm. the place is immaculate, the bathroom is charmingly quaint yet modern. All the imenities you would need are provided. Breakfast is also included and the owner is quite a cook. She is also effortlessly charming and welcoming. They have WiFi in the breakfast area and plan to have it in the rooms as well next year. I have nothing but praise for this place. Its really special.

Arriving after a business stay at the most established 5 star in Athens (which isn't bad), this was an upgrade in every way that matters. The rooms (or houses as they really are) a perfect balance of modern and traditional, simple yet refined, everything spotlessly clean, big tasty breakfasts and beautiful sea views. But most importantly, Katerina and Michelis are incredibly welcoming and warm hosts and owners and they went out of their way to make our stay a pleasant one.

As such, they are good ambassadors for an island population, whose only exception to a welcoming atmosphere is one of the three taxi drivers on the island...

And what an island it is - affording genuine experiences, great food, relatively untrafficked outback paths with lovely beaches at the end of them - and tourism happening on local terms. Please just tell the right people; this particular paradise is doing just fine without package holiday makers.

We spent several days in the Blue Suite of the hotel, which is quite new (opened late last summer), dressed in luxury and offers the most beautiful sea views. The suite has two floors with a huge bed downstairs, full bath with a gorgeous jacuzzi. The upstairs has a roomy kitchen with stainless steel sink, stovetop, and good counter space. There is a brand new kettle, Philips drip coffee maker, toasted cheese sandwich maker (panini press) and blender for Greek frappes or cocktails. The fridge is of the half-sized variety but quiet and spacious enough. The kitchen has a complete set of nice china and cooking utensils. The upstairs bath has a roomy shower, toilet and sink area with plenty of room for cosmetics, toiletries, etc. The towels, bathrobes and bath products are top grade. There is satellite TV, CD music stereo and air conditioning. And there is room for a third person to sleep upstairs. The decor in all the rooms (the owner let me have a look) is stunning and based on traditional Astypalian homes. Design buffs will love it. But the best part of staying here was the incredible hospitality of Katerina and Michelis, the owners. Very genuine people who are determined to make their guests happy, happy, happy. They succeeded with us. Our suite cost 100 euros per night at the end of May/beginning of June and we felt it was worth every cent. They even arranged a rental car to be brought to us at the hotel and gave us tips on good restaurants in the town which is a five minute walk away. There is a good supermarket there and a greengrocer next to that which has some fabulous fresh produce. We spent a lot of time on our balcony, eating meals, sipping wine and taking in the view. The owners have created something truly unique for the Greek islands. While some of the rooms sleep more than two, this hotel is ideal for honeymoons/romantic getaways.
