SEA CAPTAINS HOUSE was a bit difficult for us to find at first: (WORTH IT !!) We asked several locals who eagerly pointed the way.(Tony the owner is well-known and loved here) There are no signs on the main steet in OIA that we could see. We were the second couple to stay in the NEWLY RENOVATED MEMORIES HOUSE: set off from the main house with the most incredible views we found in all of OIA. We were staying elsewhere but left early due to the stairs and lack of jacuzzi .We checked into the Sea Captains House instead. It is right in the heart of town but hidden and there are only a few steps compared to other hotels. It was exactly what we were looking for. PRIVATE, GORGEOUS, WELL-STOCKED, VIEWS EVERYWHERE YOU TURN. We are now at our third villa on this stay , but we cant help compare them all to the Sea Captains House. We are paying more than double at our third villa and honestly we miss the Sea Captains House for the following reasons: The rooms looked like an interior decorator designed them. We had 2 BR's in the traditional cave-style and each had it's own WC/shower. The main shower was larger, marble, italian fixtures and sunshower head. Linens and towels were luxurious waffleweave and even had washcloths, rare in Europe. The kitchen was adorable gourmet- quality and stocked with sodas, croissants, jams, juice, peanuts and other treats. There was an espresso maker, full stove, dishwasher, microwave and large gourmet fridge/freezer.
Flat screen TV with DVD , full set of dishes and kitchen gadgets, extra blankets and down pillows. Candles galore (don't even turn on the electricity for the best ambiance) plenty of HOT water. Did I mention an outdoor JACUZZI tucked into the corner of your terrace, the steps lead up to a rooftop private terrace, the best place for sitting in the fluffy bathrobes and seeing a few shooting stars! The jacuzzi does not have hot water but will be fine in warmer months or daytime. This new suite sits right under one of the blue-domed churches, literally beside it. The bells will ring in the morning! The breakfast was awesome and a better value than the local cafes by far. Tony was always around and took great care of us during our short stay. We would have stayed here exclusively if we had discovered it sooner. We ate at Ambrosia and Ambrosia Nectar: loved them. Also loved Candouni's, a romantic place on a quaint street away from the crowds. Has a lovely courtyard and inside is nice too. DiDi the cat will jump up and join you so be warned! Tony also offers hot stone massage and catamaran tour though we did not have time to do this. Some famous magazines have reviewed this place and loved it, all before the new suite was complete so I can't wait to see new reviews in the future. I hear one more new suite is on the way but will be hard to convince us to try anything but the MEMORIES suite.
