My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Deliades for two nights, June 5-7. We were traveling with another couple, my cousin and his wife. We arrived in Mykonos via ferry from Crete, a very comfortable 4-hour ride, I might add!
Upon arrival at the “old” port in Mykonos, we found that cabs were not as readily available as they had been at the other islands we’d visited. I seemed to remember a notation on the hotel confirmation saying to email ahead of time to make arrangements for transportation from the port, since we had failed to do so – I called the hotel to inquire if this would be a possibility… and in 15 minutes, we were on our way. Terrific service!
Once we arrived at the hotel, our bags were handled, we were greeted warmly at check in and promptly assigned 2 rooms just a few doors down from one another. The lobby is spacious, decorated in muted tones of cream and white and adjoins the breakfast room/restaurant, which opens into the pool area. The hotel actually looks like it was just built! Our room was located on the 1st floor with a balcony right on the road (this did not bother me, though) with a great view of Ornos beach. Our room had two twins side by side and was huge – by American and European standards. I loved the simplicity of the room and the artistic touches, like the wood beams in the ceiling. The bathroom was probably the most impressive – spacious and modern with an actual tub! Overall, I give the room an “A”.
The Deliades is located in Ornos, just a 5-10 minute cab ride from Mykonos town. We loved the area, it’s quiet and away from the hustle and bustle, but still offers all the modern conveniences a traveler might desire. There are several restaurants that line Ornos …all with a beautiful view, right on the white sand beaches, and all within a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. Try La Vita Bella – wonderful Italian food! There are also a few little markets where you can stock up on sodas and what not. Not to be missed is the water taxi to Paradise and Super Paradise Beach, it’s available right on Ornos Beach and runs every hour from 10a-1pm, toward the beaches that is. It may take a while calling a cab in the evening, but we never waited for more than 10-15 minutes. A cab ride from the Deliades to Mykonos town is very reasonably priced at 6 euro.
We did not use the pool, but certainly enjoyed our breakfast (buffet included in the rate) dining al fresco with a view of the Aegean off in the distance. The Deliades was probably the most expensive of our hotels during our visit to Greece, but Mykonos is an expensive island! So taking that in consideration, I thought the hotel was a great value and honestly, I can’t imagine a better location!
A couple of tips…
The waterfront bars, restaurants in Mykonos town are outrageously priced – 10 euro for a beer, 14 euro for a mixed drink! Wander back just a bit and you’ll find lots of hidden little restaurants and bars, far more reasonably priced. Dinner at Niko’s Tavern (apparently a popular spot) was only 88 euro for 4 people – including wine and beer!
Paradise beach is a great place to spend the day! If you decide to stay later (to enjoy the table dancing, or watching it in our case) and miss the water taxi, an actual taxi may be hard to catch. We ended up taking the bus to Mykonos town and a cab back to Ornos.
If we had one more day in Mykonos, I believe it would have been spent lounging on Ornos beach, it’s quiet, beautiful and just a stone’s throw from the Deliades.
Overall, the Deliades is a fantastic choice for Mykonos. If you have any questions, ask away!
