“Very Poor Service, Accommodation very limited”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2014

Hubby and myself stayed in Ekavi Beach Hotel last week and booked out after two days! The rooms are very limited, you can't lay on your bed and leave the curtains open as other balcony's look into your room, so you're in constant darkness. There was no kettle to make a hot drink, my husband was told that it would cost 5 euros per day to have one and that the kitchenette was also 5 euros per day, so it would have cost us 10 euros per day to make a drink of coffee. The first day we arrived we went out in the evening to get a meal, it was virtually impossible as all the local tavernas were closed. We had to walk 6 kilometres into Platanes to get something, my husband had seriously sprained his ankle on a few days before so that wasn't good. We arrived back in a taxi which cost 9 euros, the elderly owner was sat in the dining area picking his toes and cutting his toe nails, the next morning when we went down to breakfast we were sat in the same area. The following morning we went down to breakfast to witness the elderly lady owner picking her nose in the dining area after having put the continental breakfast out. Unfortunately that was the final straw for me! The mattresses on the beds are rock hard and the springs dig in during the night, you daren't turn over because you can't get comfortable. Our backs were very sore in the mornings after laying in one position all night. We used the beach which is at the hotel which was quite pleasant. On two occasions we decided to have something to eat at the poolside bar and restaurant. We waited for over an hour and an hour and a half for someone to serve us. On the second occasion we gave up, the staff could see us waiting but carried talking to each other in the kitchen. I'm diabetic so need to eat regularly and be consistent with meals. We couldn't even get a loaf of bread in the area as there were no shops open. The receptionist was very nice and very helpful, she speaks English, German and Greek and will put herself out to accommodate you. She needs to find a better hotel next season which can accommodate her talents. The sheets were stained and the towels were thread bare. The family who own this hotel seem to have given up! We checked out and booked into the MARINOS HOTEL which is in Platanes, the mattresses were new and had mattress toppers - HEAVEN!!! The family owners were lovely and friendly and were always available.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view as the rooms on second floor aren't overlooked by other apartment balconys

We travel to greek islands for 16 years and this was our worse experience.
The hotel is on the beach (2-3 meters of rocky beach) and you have to pass dirty and stinky staircase to get there.
Everyday cleaning service means to empty the bins only, no changing the bed linen, changing the towels once a week.
Very poor care, no smile, no will to help with anything.

The hotel looks nice, rooms are very modest, the ground floor is pretty dark, you have a kitchen but very few light. There are so many mosquitos! The cleaning is nothing special... You have to pay for air condition and for wifi too. The password in August was ekavibeach 765, you can try :) Quite close to Heraklion airport, apprx. 40 min by bus. They serve one kind of food for dinner, but usually it was very good, homemade. If you need baby food or some other restrictions, they try hard. Breakfast was very, very modest. One kind of salami, one kind of cheese, bread, coffee, jam. The location is perfect, right on the beach, just few stairs. It was usually pretty silent, but the local children of the owners are SO not behaving themselves, nobody from the guests understood why the owners-parents don't tell them something.

We have been here with friend in August 2013. The hotel was chosen by price. All websites say there is an air condition in the room. But really it costs 5 extra euros per day! That was really annoying. It wasn't hot in the room so we didn't pay for it. Its also written everywhere that WIFI is free but on practice its 10 euros per a week. Its a family hotel and children of the owner are always near the pool. The always scream and run around, so don't really expect to relax near the pool.
Rooms are pretty nice. On the first floor they have kitchens, but no windows. 2-3 floors have no kitchen but have windows and lovely sea view from the balcony. The thing which shocked us is that there is even no soap in the room. Towels are old, but ok.
We only booked breakfast, it was normal continental breakfast. But you have to ask for tea if you you want it every time as they have only coffee on the table.
We rent a car so didn't spend much time in the hotel. The location is pretty good, sea is just 1 min away from the hotel and there is a nice beach near next 5 stars hotel. You can also take a bus which is 1,60 euro cost and will take you to Retimno in 20 min. There are several lovely tavernas around the hotel.
In general I really enjoyed these holidays!

I stayed in the Ekavi Beach a few years ago now , I decided to write the review since there are no English reviews. I highly recommend the hotel to all the people who travel abroad to get to know foreign cultures, meet the natives, taste new food and wine, see new places and explore. The place is run by a great family - very nice, communicative and hospitable people. We simply loved them. We rented a car and they helped us choose the best spots, pearls of beauty on the island. And the food they served was excellent. I fell in love with Greek quisine then ! Crete is a lovely island, a true paradise ! The standard of the rooms was not very high but it was clean and decent.
