This hotel is the epitomy of very very cheap tourism. Sheets are changed once every four days, the food is not fresh (frozen and precooked), you even have to pay for the a/c usage.
The hotel itself has a large pool in the back, with questionable quality of water, where everybody is gathered drinking hot beer and lying down in zero privacy as the adjacent block of flats overlook directly into the swimming pool area. When I mentioned that at the reception, they replied, "what do you need privacy for? Don't everybody look at each other anyway?"!!!!
The staff however recognise the handicap of the hotel they work for, and are trying to be polite and sympathetic as well.
If you choose to go take a room thats not located on the last floor as the hotel lacks heating insulation, and the top floor feels like an oven.
At check in ask for yannis. He is one of the reception staff and he is very understanding. He knows of the problems and the complaints, and he will allocate you to the best available room. Probably at another hotel....

during my stay at this hotel, i learned what murphy's law is about. "if something can go wrong, it will go wrong". we arrived late at night, and the room we were given had a faulty a/c. We had to wait till the next morning for the maintainance, as the reception informed us. We did the mistake to open up the balcony door, in order to lower the temperature in this super-sauna room. The noise from the street was loud, the garbage bin was placed exactly under our balcony resulting in having a terrible smell all over our room, and the mosquitos (because of the garbage bin) had a feast in our bodies!
the a/c was fixed after two days, after which, we had to pay for the usage!! We also had to pay for the beach chairs, as this hotel does not have (as we found out)beach usage.
as far as the food is concerned, don't expect anything special. the portions are o.k. though you have to pay (even double the street price) for the water as the hotel serves only bottled water, which sometimes is not even cold.
the room overall is o.k. not very spacious, not very small. a small refurbishment would at least give it the freshness that is missing.
the staff is polite overall with the exception of one or two persons like the maintainance guy who replied "i don't know. if you don't like it, go to another hotel" when we asked "when will the a/c be ready?"!!!
i can go on and on, but the whole meaning won't change. if you think of choosing this hotel for your holiday, the least you can do is to book a room that overlooks the swimming pool and not the street, and try to find the beautiful little tavernas that are all over this town, so that you have a nice meal with good value for money.

If you stay at this hotel, you must make certain that your room is not placed in the front of the hotel facing the street, but on the side that faces the pool. Otherwise you will have noise problems, and most of all problems with the smell and the view of the huge garbage bins (usually with excess load) that are left in the street to be collected. Imagine that with the a/c broken, forcing you to open the balcony door, as it happened to us last summer.

We booked this hotel with First Choice Holidays and I think there the only British tour operator that run there, for the money that we paid we were pleasantly surprised. This excellent 4* Air Conditioned hotel is in a prime location in the heart of Rethymnon. It is situated in a quiet side street, around 30M from a large INKA supermarket, 50M from the large beach in rethymno and a 10 min walk to the old town. The Hotel is excellently presented, full marble floors and a Greek statue in reception. Staff in the hotel will do whatever you ask them and are polite and courteous. Lifts and Stairs serve all 5 floors. The hotel has excellent bar and taverna and entertainment is every night 6 days a week. Entertainment is Magician show, Greek night, disco; Music shows all a taste of what’s there. Rooms are large, well furnished and have Air Conditioning (Small Charge), Satellite TV, Music Channels and full kitchette. Most apartments have pool view but the smaller studios have a road view. The hotel is on beautiful grounds, the large and children’s swimming pool is enclosed for safety and a chimney, and now a historic monument is in the ground and is stunning when it is lit up in the nights. The hotel also has Internet access, which is charged at 2E per hour.


Overall this hotel was excellent and has top-notch facilities and staff. So good we will be returning soon.
