“Great hotel close to everything”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

We have just returned from this hotel and I really cannot fault it. We booked a Junior Suite which comprised of a bedroom area with a flat screen tv and a sitting area with a sofa and yet another flatscreen. OK, we didn't use them as the only channels in English were world news, but it was a lovely room with a small fridge filled with complimentary water, soft drinks, chocolate and a bottle of wine. On arrival we also had a complimentary fruit bowl and a ton of peanuts!

Our 'patio' area was superb - we basically had a roof terrace with an almost 360 view - of the pool, sea and mountains behind the hotel. This was supplied with a table and chairs, two sun loungers and a sun brolly. We had room 756 - worth asking for! We also had plenty of privacy if sunbathing on the terrace as we were right at the end of the hotel and not overlooked by any other rooms, unlike one of the other suites which had a bed on the terrace - well overlooked by about 20 other rooms!

We stayed on a B&B basis but never went down for breakfast so could not comment on the food at the hotel. You really don't need to stay full board here - there are restaurants and bars on the doorstep which are not expensive and the Old Town is about 20-30 minute stroll along the seafront.

The hotel has two swimming pools, a small one at the front which is adults only - really good idea - and a larger one out the back with a pool bar and seating area.

We only had a couple of issues - with privacy! I was sunbathing on the terrace one morning and the gardener walked in to water the pots - didn't even look at me until I said good morning! Another couple of times we were getting ready to go out in the evening and we had one interruption from a maid who said our toilet (which was slow filling!) was keeping people awake downstairs and another time around 8pm she knocked and let herself in with a key asking if we wanted bin liners!! We did also get awoken on our last morning by someone on the roof carrying out maintenance but I don't think this is a regular occurrence. I do feel that a 'do not disturb' sign for the door would be very useful......

The room also was supplied with a kettle and tea and coffee every day. Most welcome as I always take my travel kettle with me when I go abroad.

The surrounding area is superb, plenty to do and see. The hotel is also about 5 mins walk from the main beach - which does get a bit busy, but if you walk further down in either direction you'll find quieter spots on the beach. There are many trips available from the all dayers to just an hour or so. We chose to take the bus tour and boat trip to the caves. Quite reasonably priced and only lasting an hour and a half each. But if you're into water sports this is the area for you!

Overall I would return to this hotel due to location and service. The staff are superb, very friendly and willing to help. One thing I would add is that if you do have one of the top suites, there are no lifts so if you're not good with steps, I would request a room which is serviced by a lift. However, the hotel does arrange for your luggage to be taken up and down so that is not such a problem.

Room Tip: Never had any issue with noise here but we did go out of season. If you do want to spend a little mo...

We stayed bed and breakfast. The breakfasts are excellent! You can get freshy cooked eggs made in front of you! Highly recommend the omlette. Also would say go early while everything is fresh and quieter!

We has a basic room, everything was fine...being picky the wardrobes were very small and difficult to hang clothes up in, I would suggest normal coat hangers!! And not big chunky coat hangers! We requested a quite room, there are rooms to the front which face a noisey road!

The rooms were cleaned every day! And are well kept and clean.

The pool is quite nice, the only sad thing is that it's next to a noisy road.

We went it the beach nearly every day. The hotel is near the best part of beach quieter and cheaper sunbeds. Towards rethymon town the beach gets wider and there are loads of sunbeds!

There is a spar shop next to the hotel which is cheap for water!

We went Guru bar opposite the beach, they do the best Greek salads! We went to a few other places for a Greek salad on the front but nowhere was compared to Gurus!

During our visit we went on the tourist train twice and we took a cheeky can of mythos...highly reccommend the rethymon tour at night, just as the sun is setting! It's beautiful!! We also did the Greek village tour which was nice but very hot in the day!

If you are going to eat at the harbour only go to zephyros the fish is excellent! All the locals agree we spoke to.

I would recommend this hotel, it's also a really nice place to to explore at night with lots of narrow alleyways, getting lost sometimes!

Met and welcomed at the front desk, just as dinner was finished....but no problem....parked the bags and had dinner, and then went to rooms.
The food .....variety, quality and standard very high, with choices to eat inside or outside.
Entertainment good....hard working staff.and Manager
a lovely pool. Air conditioning in room, and tea making facilities and fridge. Nice little touches around the pool from time to time ie slices of Melon, cold towels etc
A great choice!

We are about to visit the Minos for the third consecutive year in just over two weeks' time. We are returning because of the excellent quality of this hotel. We like Rethymnon as a resort but we are particularly impressed by the hotel. The welcome you receive is second-to-none. It is particularly impressive when there is instant recognition from one of the staff as you enter the hotel after a long journey even though he will not have seen you for a whole year. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The service and hospitality are the best we have received in any hotel we have visited. The standard of food is very good. The outside environment is also of a high quality and you can always find a sunbed. The location of the hotel is very convenient as you are a leisurely quarter of an hour stroll from the historic town and in the evening you can have a stroll on the nearby promenade to watch the fantastic sunsets. Do not be fooled by your first glimpse of the hotel as it looks run-of-the -mill as you approach. Once inside, the story is very different. We can recommend this hotel unreservedly.

A decent small hotel, well maintained, with a nice breakfast buffet, full of variety.
Nothing special regarding the rooms, just the fact that we did not find anything bad to talk about.
The pool was rather small, bu the location of the hotel is relevantly good, as it was only 3 mins walk from the beach, and around 15 mins walk from the city centre.

We needed a hotel with a pool or pools for our seven year old but also close to the beach in case she wanted to go there. The Hotel also had to be fairly close to the old town and port so the adults could do something other than swim. We chose this hotel as it was closer to the old town than many other larger hotels, not too expensive on a half board basis as we planned to stay elsewhere later in the holiday and close to the beach. The hotel is not "front line" but is maybe 200 metres from the beach with rooms facing the sea/pool. There are two pools which look bigger on publicity photos than they are in reality in my opinion. There is a smaller one at the front as you enter and a larger pool within the hotel area. All areas we used and saw were clean and well kept. We had a junior suite on the third floor which was a good sized room etc with a corner terrace and balcony for sunbathing.

The difficulty in reviewing this hotel is that it is neither large enough to have a mega amount of other facilities, nor small enough to have a unique quality for which you would visit. Good points were the management and staff, all efficient, proficient and friendly. The room. The pool bar and restaurant were good enough to enable us not to bother wandering out for lunch and the position and rooms were fine. There are enough sun beds and parasols not to have people racing out at 7.30 am to put towels out. It was all fairly relaxed.

There are no bad points, just things to be aware of. If you have kids who want lots of other kids around, sometimes there aren't many. The Clientele are all ages and the nationalities are principally Dutch, English and German with a few French, Greek and Italians. If you want after dinner entertainment then apart from the Greek Night (usual dancing round the pool) the poor old animations bloke has all on to raise enthusiasm for karaoke, bingo, magic show, Mr & Mrs etc because of the diversity of clientele. He has the same problem with other entertainment during the day. Didn't bother us because we don't like being organised. We used the pool to entertain daughter, had lunch, did the pool, had dinner and went out.

Other things are the lift which takes a max of four may drive you mad. The restaurant is adequate and has loads of variation on the salad and starter side but the themed nights, Greek, Italian, Fish, International, Arabian, World, etc really aren't. There is a Pizza Oven and a grill which did, when we were there, one thing per night such as chopped meatballs, fish, lamb chops, etc., but there are stews and pasta and sauce. For breakfast the grill turns into an omelette and egg station but for an English visitor you may be mystified why the bacon is chopped up and the sausages are like chopped hot dogs.

If you want a pleasant place to stay then this is pleasant and relaxing but don't expect loads of kids, kid friendly entertainment or arcade games etc. Equally don't expect full on entertainment. Most people go out.

Finally the problem with this review is the limited categories. In reality this hotel is better than average, but not quite very good because of the food at dinner. I would put it as "good" but there isn't such a category. I hope that's fair.
