“Not perfect, but pretty good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2014

We had a week long stay at Hotel Palladion which we very much enjoyed. The location in the middle of Adelianos Kampos is decent - just a couple of doors along from Klados Travel whose tours were fun and very reasonably priced, near to the beach which has a great view of Rethymnon and the White Mountains beyond (it's especially lovely at sunset) and within a short distance of local shops, bars and restaurants. As other reviews have mentioned the hotel (and indeed all of Adelianos Kampos) is sandwiched between two busy roads, but I got used to that after a day.

The nightlife in Adelianos Kampos is of varying quality and we actually found that the bar at the Palladion was one of the better ones on the strip. The drinks are well priced and their daily special cocktail sells for €3.50.

Our room, which was located toward the back of the hotel on the second floor was spacious and clean with plenty of wardrobe space and a small balcony. As you'd expect it can get very warm in the rooms, but I believe you can pay extra for air con (we weren't too fussed).

All that having been said, it's not perfect. The shower curtain in our room was held up on an odd railing system which didn't work at all, so showering left the whole bathroom covered in water. It sounds like a minor irritation but when you and your partner are both showering twice a day it soon starts being quite annoying.

The other gripe I had was with some of the food. The selection of cold salads is very good - my partner is a vegetarian and she was delighted by what was on offer - but the quality of the meat dishes is very hit and miss. On our first night they served pieces of lamb and lamb and mint koftas, which were delicious. On the second night it was a sauce based chicken dish in which the very cheapest possible pieces of chicken were used - I mean the pieces were 80% rib cage and 20% meat. Quite unpleasant. On another night they served a sauce-based lamb dish but, again, the pieces of lamb were 80% bone or fat with only a tiny amount of meat. But then our final meal there consisted of spanakopita and moussaka, both of which were fantastic. I can't help but think they'd be better off just serving grilled pieces of meat and traditional greek food and abandoning the sauce-based dishes, which seem designed to cater for English and German guests, altogether.

Overall we had a pleasant stay at the Palladion and found it to be good value for money. The staff are very friendly and when we had questions for them before the holiday they got back to us quickly - we found them really helpful. I'd have no problem going back and staying there again in the future.

Dear Sir/Madam,

we would like to thank you for your honest review on our property.
We always want to improve our services and a good way to do that
is to have feed back from people who stayed here.

About the charges on air conditioning is good know that only
two tour operators don't include it in the price. We prefer not to charge
anything locally, but this is not something we can amend easily.

As for the shower unfortunately it's not the first time we see reviewers
talking about it and we know we got a problem there.
The only option for us is to fit a shower cabin but as you can understand
is an very big expense for 80 rooms totally. We will certainly try to resolve
this problem in the future.

As for the meals provided we know that is always a matter of subjectivity and
we can not please all of our clients. We want to add a small notice, we don't
have German clients at all, as we don't cooperate with German tour operators.

Thank you once more for your review and rating, we really hope to see you again.
Kind regards!

Stayed here September 2013. Sorry for late review. Nice room, breakfast good, nice pool. Got it for a great price and would definitely come back. The Greeks are really friendly without being in your face. Love Crete as well. Restored my faith in European holidays after dreadful time in Zakynthos. Keep up the good work.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014 via mobile

As 91% of the cost of our holiday was for the flight we had very little expectations. However this little gem of a hotel exceeded all those expectations. It was clean and tidy, with very approachable and friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble. It looked like the hotel had recently had a facelift and beds felt like they were new. Fresh towels every couple of days and clean sheets half way through the week. The pool area was ideal and the pool very clean. The buffet breakfast was acceptable with boiled eggs being available every other day but cheese, tomato and meats available daily along with cereals, yogurt and fruit and fresh white or brown bread.

Many thanks to Anna and Via for letting me practise my incredibly bad Greek. I would not hesitate to come back again.

We decided to go to Crete for a short break in October and picked the Palladion as it was small and familly run.We had a great time hotel staff helpful and polite. The rooms were as described and more than met our needs cleaned daily and frequent towel and bedding changes. We will go back to Crete and to this hotel as it more than met our expectations a great holiday at a reasonable cost. The breakfasts were buffet style and we could order a packed breakfast if we were going on organised trips. The siting of the hotel is ideal as we did a lot of traveling during our stay and we were midway between Ghania and Heraklion.many thanks Isobel

Stayed here for a week in October , it is situated in a convenient location close by to the beach , bars and tavernas . The rooms are very nice , the bed was really comfy !! you had a tv, hairdryer and a fridge in your room too . The bathroom was spacious but the shower cubicles was small and you couldn't hook the shower head up so had to hold it in your hand while showering . I had bed and breakfast as my board basis but was never out of bed early enough to sample it but it is served between 8 and 10 am each morning . The room was kept clean and tidy throughout my stay however as a hint it might be worthwhile asking reception to ask not to clean the room so early i got woken up one morning before 9am and if you've been out the night before which most of us holiday makers do it is a tad too early !!
I would and am planning a return trip here next May

Dear Mis,

thank you for your review and rating. Just a small correction breakfast is from 7.30 till 10.00. Also we let you know that is possible to make the room a little bit later, but as you already said you have to ask it from reception. We will be happy to accomodate you again!

Kind regards!

We stayed in Palladion the last week of September, and had a excellent vacation!

The personal is very kind and enthusiastic, a big compliment to the cleaning and restaurant staff! They make you feel very welcome and were very sweet to our 1y old daughter.

The rooms are clean and comfortable. They are making the bed and mopped every day. Towels are changed regularly.
The only thing is the shower, this could be 'improved'.

The garden is beautiful and very well maintained (same applies to the buildings (painting etc)), with fresh lime's and orange's (Apologies to the owner; I couldn't resist to take some). There is a small playground.

The swimming pool was very clean and there were plenty of seats/tables/parasols.

Breakfast and diner were good and had great quality. Diner had a wide variety of salads. A small improvement could be made by more variation in desserts and hot meals.
Nice detail is the option to eat outside.

Free hotel services include:
-Airco
-Fridge
-Safe
-Wifi
-TV
-Child's bed

The hotel is located in the middle of a (tourist) shopping/restaurant street, with nice shops, mini-golf, wellness stores, car rentals and (cheap) restaurants. You should really try Mr Gyros just 100m from the hotel, great quality and very very low price. There is a local supermarket right across the street (Lidl is a 1km walk).
The beach is a 200m walk.

Rethymnon can be walked in 1h15m..... with buggy and on flip-flops! From the hotel it's just one long road, with plenty of shops/restaurants on the way. So don't take the hot sweaty bus ;)

Conclusion: I'm looking forward to my next vacation in this hotel!

Room Tip: I was in room 148, on ground level with a nice orange tree next to it.

The hotel faces the road so You can hear constantly the noise of traffic if to open the door of balkony. Therefor was difficult to sleep. Very tasteful meals in the evening. Only 20-25 min by bus to Rethymno oldtown, beautiful place to walk. Nice Katherin Beach over the road.

Room Tip: Higher floors have more light.
