Now lets not get to carried away with the +++'s. For a start it rained while I was there. Well not all the time. ha..As I stand on the roof area with its tables and chairs sipping a cold beer I peer over the side and see a pool in the establishment next door. Well good luck to them. Bet they pay for something hardly used. Most go down the road to the beach for a dip.
My days journey began in Larnaca Cyprus, Flight to Athens then onwards to Heraklion 5:30pm No info counter for tourists at airport unless you had booked with a tour company which have their counters outside. Finally found bus stop to town. Got dropped off with driver pointing down a road to where I could catch bus to Rethymno. Got all togeather and arrived edge of old town 8pm, A wander around found me in front of what really did not look like an accommodation other than perhaps someones house.
Bing Bong and push open the door. No really sure how many rooms here but quite a few on three levels.Greeted and taken to my room, top floor for 3 nights. Cooking facilities, fridge, tea and coffee. Biscuits and cake yum later on. Mentioned not into cookies and fruit appeared. Also a small bottle of Raki for those who wish an extra part of warmth that comes with the place. It has been mentioned in privious reviews about the Hardness of the very thin matresses. YES. Wont disagree here. Plenty of room and a balcony looking over a garden/patio with small pond to gather and talk with fellow guests. Soft colour lighting at night, also the roof for chatting, looking over the town and back at the Castle. Fittings are old. For the price, a bargin.Very handy to either waterfront ( more modern, touristy, other food tavernas) and the old town, its little streets and great Crete food and atmosphere.
Information, on the area and extended parts of Crete is offered by Hosts. Great as I new very little. I did visit a very unknown gorge called Richtis by Exo Mouliana village near Sitia, East Crete. Not heaps of people, with lots of the walk under a canopy of trees, some bolders and a lovely waterfall throwen in. No fee. 1.75 hrs each way or tempt the drive down to the beach by thin road then walk into the waterfall a 30 min or so but not the tree canopy on offer this way.
Rethymno is a great place to visit with Barbara's Hosts capping off a wonderful stay in their establishment. So pleased I did not leave out this part of Crete on my journey.

We are very glad that you did not regret visiting Rethymno, and that you had such a nice stay in our house. We are sorry that you had little trouble in the airport though...
Thank you for mentioning the treats, and our guidance around Crete. We hope that was helpful.
As far as the mattresses are concerned, we have already changed them with new softer ones.
We would love to welcome you again anytime you want, since we are open during all year.
