We stayed here for a week at the end of June/beginning of July with our 3 year old son. The hotel was beautifully maintained, the rooms were quiet & absolutely gorgeous with massive walk-in showers.
The food was of a really high standard with plenty of choice for everyone (even though it did get quite repetative after a week). I did wish that they would have served more traditional Greek dishes though.
The hotel's guests were a lovely mixture of various nationalities which was great, as we hate staying in Brit only hotels
Some of the staff were fantastic, some so so. The biggest negative was that the pool is quite small and that guests from the next door 4 star Pearl hotel would go and put their towels on the chairs at some ungodly hour, meaning that it was almost impossible to get a sunlounger until late on in the afternoon.
The advertised kids playroom was an unkemp musty smelling room full of old equipment.
The hotel also operated a strange deposit system for various things. I have never before stayed in a supposed 5 star hotel where you have to leave a cash deposit for your car park key fob or beach towels. Surely it would be better to take the client's credit card details on arrival and charge all missing items to that! Also, the customer carpark was a boiling hot outdoor area in the back of the hotel and the staff car park was a big empty purpose built area under the hotel. Surely this should have been the other way around?
Location wise the hote was ok. It is at the end of a rather ugly strip of hotels leading up to Rethymnon Town. The walk took about 30 minutes and was a nice way to walk off an evening meal.
The beach was on the other side of the road from the hotel and was nice enough. It has a pebble bottom making it difficult to go in & out with a child.
Rethymonon itself is nice, but not as scenic as Chania. The market on a Thursday was great. Lots of lovely produce on offer.
There are some cracking good restaurants if you avoid the harbour front and venture into the town proper.
In summary, the hotel was great for a week's quick getaway, but I don't think we'd go back. Mostly because there are just so many other lovely places left to experience.
