“Couldn't have been better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Civitas Boutique hotel suited us perfectly. My wife and I prefer small family run hotels and this was exactly what we were looking for, only nicer. The hotel itself is quite stunning. Rooms are actually apartments on 2 levels with a fully equipped kitchen and dishwasher. Everything about the rooms is luxurious from the bed linen to the lovely marble bathroom with TV’s in every room. Everyone at the hotel always greeted us with a smile and made us feel at home. We couldn’t have been happier. A must place to visit!!!

Room Tip: It's exactly as in the pictures on their website.

Having spent 2 weeks and a lot of money to stay in this hotel to say that we were underwhelmed just about sums it up. The hotel rooms are nice but lack natural light so you have to switch the lights on most of the time. The hotel itself is very ornate and kept spotlessly clean, staff very friendly, but the kitchen area is a disaster and needs a total overhaul. If you are going to stay here take the b & b option, mind you the choices are not great on the breakfast buffet, cereal, watered down orange juice, bread rolls, cheese and ham and some jams. Don't even attempt dinner. Food unimaginative, not good quality and generally not good value. Hotel guests had to pay supplements for some fish and meat dishes. All choices were not always on menu.. there appears to be a high turnover in staff. Chef walked off the job while we were there.. pandemonium ensued... chef next night was a waiter who was not a trained Chef. The dessert menu is a joke. The hotel owner and his mother should cop on to themselves, they have a fine hotel building but if they could only manage the restaurant property they would start attracting more customers. Again the staff are wonderful Alexis, Dimitri, Ilias and Yianni, but hotel owners need a wake up call and be more proactive in the day to day running of the hotel and 'hotel mama needs to be sent to charm school she made absolutely no effort whatsoever to welcome or interact with her guests.

Dear guests.

Thank you for choosing Civitas Hotel for your holiday destination and for taking the time to comment upon your stay with us. We are pleased that you were happy with the decor of the hotel and that you found it to be spotlessly clean and that all staff were helpful and friendly. We apologise for the inconvenience caused when the chef left suddenly for a family emergency. We are also sorry that you found breakfast to be lacking choice as we provide a full continental breakfast menu consisting of: tea/coffee, orange juice, cereals, yoghurt, condiments, fresh fruit, bread rolls, cake and a variety of pastries and toasted sandwiches. We appreciate the points you made and use the constructive feedback as we continually strive on improving our service wherever possible.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Civitas Hotel in the future should you return to Rethymno.

This beautiful hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of Rethymnon. Our fabulous room (no 5) was breath taking. We had a glorious sea view from our balcony. Ikarus beach is only five minutes away where you can rent parasols and sun loungers for 9 euros. There are numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and endless shopping all within walking distance from civitas hotel. There is also lots to do from visiting Minoan palaces to hiking in Samaria Gorge. The list is endless, you can do as little or as much as you want.

My husband and I especially want to thank the lovely Alexis from civitas for making this 2 wk holiday extra special with all her help and for taking good care of us. Aldo, Nico, Vassilis and
lefkarris from the civitas restaurant were also great. Athena kept our room spotlessly clean and the owner of civitas was welcoming.

To sum up my beautiful husband and I had a romantically magical time in civitas rethymnon on
the gorgeous island of Crete.

Room Tip: Room number 5 has a lovely sea view from the balcony

A well appointed boutique hotel with a lovely situation . Local facilities very good , but restaurant staff too pushy for me ! ie They see you leave one restaurant having just eaten then pounce on you !! . We had a lovely week and would return .

Room Tip: No lift , and try not to arrive in the middle of the night as they didn't meet us from the trans...

what a lovely place rethymnon is the hotel is situated on the sea front in the old town handy for everything our room was lovely but on two levels the bedroom being upstairs the bathroom kitchen etc down stairs and I had torn a tendon in my knee just before we went so the stairs were a bit awkward especially if you needed the loo in the night otherwise great. If you like a hearty breakfast then this hotel is not for you but it suited me fine and you can always rustle something up in your room overall we had a great time.

Room Tip: if not too good on your feet make sure you request a room all on one level

Beautifully decorated and very very clean. Staff all very helpful however woefully understaffed. Quality of food ok but choice very poor. Breakfast a waste of time. Couldn't even get a slice of toast. No where to sit and relax when back from beach. Sun terrace had workmen on it, no parasol or sun beds. No reception area or bar area. Food not included in package and drinks very expensive. Such a let down considering how much money this holiday cost.

We stayed 07.07.13-14.07.13 in a wonderful luxurious room on the top floor. Perfectly clean and especially the bed - very comfortable. The pictures on the hotel's website are nice, but the hotel and our room turned out to be even much better in reality))) I'm a regular traveller but here I was surprised in a good way))) Also good location to the beach, parking (we rented a car) and the city centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed every single moment really)))
