We were holidaying for xmas in nearby Sandford Holiday Park. We had booked the meal for 3 of us and paid our deposit. The exterior of the place looked modern and the menu sounded unusual. On arrival a large party of about 10 werejust leaving and that left a couple at the bar and 2 others seated. Our table was laid out for a xmas meal but no other tables were laid up. It transpired that we were the only ones eating on xmas eve. We didnt hold out much hope, the place was not cheery or warm, I kept my coat on for the 1st 20mins. Our drinks arrived and we had 2 x spritzers and the mixers were both flat so we were very dubious of what lay ahead.
The waitress was very pleasant . When the starters arrived we were all blown away, My mother and I had a trio of smoked fish with various dressing, and my partner stuffed pigeion breast with a jus. Gorgeous. The Mains were also outstanding, Turkey Roularde with amazing roast baby beets and potatoes and Lamb cutlets with baby new pots and mushroon veloute. The dessert was an eton mess parfet for 2 and I had a massive cheese platter. We were then offered coffee, but they had no decaf, so we had tea and as many home made mince pies as one could eat. I was totally stuffed. It was an amazing meal and great value for money. The wine by the glass was bit expensive but we think that all over the dorset area wine was pricey.
What would have made all the difference would have been a warm fire, nice music and maybe laying up a few more tables with candles and making it a bit more atmospheric. It is a pity about the lack of ambience as I dont think we would go there again even though we do plan to holiday next year at the holiday park.
