Description: Peskesi restaurant in Heraklion Crete, is an effort to discover the secrets and enjoy the benefits of the Cretan diet. Our cuisine is based on pure and natural products of the Cretan land and our aim is to highlight the traditional Cretan aromas and flavors that have been forgotten. Peskesi is open from morning till late and aims to provide an integrated experience based on the quality, the diversity and the value of the Cretan lifestyle. We brought the traditional "Cretan house" near you in the center of Heraklion, with modern aesthetics and functionality while retaining ancient traditional methods, such as food-gathering and meal preparations.

“Great food, ambiance, and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

This is a great find for a restaurant in all of Greece. Awesome menu, and nice mixed drinks too. Staff was really nice. Very interesting menu, decor, and excellent food preparation.

“the sceptical approach”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2014

More like 3.5 but tripadvisor wont let me award halves so i choose to round it down (rather than up), to a firm 3. Service was way too slow, fixing that I might be tempted to round up to 4. But is always about the food, which somehow failed to excite my educated taste buds. That is not to say said buds were offended, just thatt following all the hype (currently unfolding in my hometown), I was expecting gastroheaven. There' a welcome amount of effort going into every aspect of the restaurant experience, and I plan to allow for some time for their engines to heat up before I go back and check again. As it is now, namely, pas mal (and not expensive), it can only excite those who buy the hype at face value.

“Mediocre”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2014

Peskesi is a 2014 addition to the panorama of Crete's restaurants and is growing popular among locals yet with apparent no real reason. This restaurant promoted as "creative Cretan food" is in a small alley of the old town, with pleasantly rustically-designed interiors. I arrived alone around 9pm on a sunday. The place was almost fully-booked and I was luckily to find a free table. I chose a dakos as appetized from the a-la-carte menu (sesami bread with olive oil, salt, and topped with tomato sauce and white cheese) (4.50 EUR) and as main, rabbit cooked in lemon sauce (one of the dishes of the day). The service was relatively fast. Too fast actually, as they served the rabbit while I was relaxing on my dakos. The dakos was nice, although 4.50 EUR to get only the ingredients and let you prepare it was a bit too pricey for my taste. The rabbit was nothing special, yet disappointingly served with a side portion of french fries which were suspiciously tasting of the frozen/industrial type. Background music was too loud, and the annoying thing that in Greece people are allowed to smoke inside, did not help the experience. At a certain point one of the waiters took my jar of olive oil from my table (each table has a jar) without permission and handled it over to another costumer (in my case, the jar was needed to prepare the dakos).

Ample space for improvement. Yet I would go back only when they will have improved.
