“Service and Satisfaction guaranteed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

My husband and I stayed here at the beginning of our trip around Crete and again at the end. We arrived mid morning after traveling all night so were a bit worse for wear when we got there. We figured we wouldn't be able to check in until later. Staff were very welcoming especially Spiros who always greeted us with a smile. We ended up having a wonderful buffet breakfast while we waited with so many choices to satisfy both savoury and sweet tastes. Then we were relaxing in the cozy bar area when we were told a room was available for us to sleep and shower if we would like until our room was ready. What a pleasant and welcome surprise! And after sleeping for a couple hours we felt so much better. Our room was ready and it was lovely ( one of the Jr suites ). The view was over the harbor, it had a large balcony, and was very spacious. It had a sliding door that could close off the bedroom area. Everything was spotless. We went out exploring and returned to a plate of dried fruits and nuts as well as a carafe of Raki. Wifi was excellent and free. Overall a wonderful welcome to Crete.

Room Tip: The Junior suite was perfect-nice size and comfortable. We also stayed in another larger suite that...

Had a one-night stop in Heraklion and selected Lato on the basis of earlier reviews. Definitely not disappointed. First of all the staff are just great - welcoming and helpful (they were particularly helpful to a lady and - I guess - her daugher whose booking had been messed up... no fuss, just handled it and found them an upgraded room - top job!)...We had a room with a view over the always-interesting harbour... lovely pastries and a small bottle of Tsikoudia. The room was small, but well equipped, with free and fully-functioning wi-fi (please take note all you big, lousy hotel chains!). A nice balcony to sit on too. We had dinner in the roof-top restaurant - simply brilliant - great takes on traditional food, wonderfully prepared - and a spectacular view. A wonderful place to start our holiday in Crete. We will be back and we will stay here again. Definitely.

Room Tip: Worth having a harbour view

This hotel suited our needs perfectly. It is across the street from the port and the bus to Knossos. Our room was in the building across the street and was small but comfortable. Good Internet connection. Nice restaurant on the roof with views of the harbor. Restaurant food was excellent and the included breakfast buffet was superb. It is a short bus ride away from Knossos and within walking distance of the Archeological Museum.

First the good points:
The hotel is very close to the port, the town, the bus depot (to get to Knossos) and the archaeological museum. The airport is only 15 minutes away by taxi
The food is outstanding. Breakfast comes with the normal range of food - cereal, hot and cold meats, yoghurt, fruit, cheeses, eggs and delicious fresh bread. But in addition there are countess local delicacies including some wonderful preserved fruits.
We also ate in the terrace restaurant all three nights we were there - the magnificent view over the harbor matched the food. I will review it separately as a restaurant
The staff was very friendly and helpful. My wife tripped and fell and they provided all the necessary medical items that we needed.
The décor is modern and very clean looking
The negative:
The first room we had was very small - really only large enough for a single person with one suitcase. The two of us had three medium size cases and a rucksack. There were very few drawers and the room had an unusual smell (we never discovered what). The following morning was asked to be moved to a larger room and the staff very helpfully gave us two options and offered to move all our luggage. We chose a slightly larger room. We discovered that 'superior' room means one with a sea view, for a larger room we needed to have booked a junior suite. I assume that you need as superior junior suite for a large room with a sea view.

Room Tip: For a large room, book a junior suite. Superior rooms are ones with a sea view

Firstly check-in was seamless. The rooms are brand new with incredible attention to detail, very funky.
Big bed, quiet room with everything you need and welcome local Greek treats.
Breakfast was really amazing, I was surprised- large range of local Crete cheeses and preserved fruits along with yoghurt you can eat with a fork. Never ending fresh orange juice and all the usual breakfast options.
Very happy and the staff were very helpful handwriting maps and recommendations for us.

I would come again. Excellent value for money. Rooms (I went twice) are very clean. The restaurant Herb's Garden on the roof top overlooking the old harbour is also very valuable and tasty. Attentionate service everywhere.
