“Under renovation....but well worth the visit....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2012

Only parts of the museum was open during renovation....the sculpture from early BC through early AD. Well laid out with great documentations. Around the corner was a special exhibit open with a high light of some of the museums treasures....we spent a good three hours perusing the parts that were available to us....probably an all day visit when final renovations are complete. A must see to get a good idea of the island's amazing archaelogical history.

“Great Findings from Iraklion... but very little artifacts.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

This gets an average rating because the tickets is a little steep for what you really get to see inside... there are hardly any thing to see... sorry but I'm sure in this mecca of archeological goodness I'm sure they could have found way more than what the museum holds....

“Museum in transition”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

The Archeological Museum is being transferred to a new facility. We got only into a temporary facility (that had most of the finest objects held in the Museum collection), and into one room in the new building (which has sculpture). It is well worth a visit, and we hope it will just improve when the permanent facility is fully opened.

“Under re-construction but still worth the visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2012

Although the Museum is currently under re-construction there are two floors of a small section still open to the public. While the ground floor is an interesting display of mainly Roman sculpture, it is the upper floor, which is filled with the amazing frescoes of the Minoan civilzation, that enthralls.

“DON'T MISS IT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

This excellent museum contains many original artefacts from all over Crete from the very earliest finds and many from the Palace at Knossos. The wall paintings are superb. Very well labelled and displayed.
