“Great place to stay on a budget”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

The hotel was very clean and the people were very friendly. If they saw me coming, they would dart to me to help if they weren't already behind the front desk.

My room was small, but I knew that when I booked. After all, I'm traveling to explore, not to spend time in my room! It had everything I needed though. The one downfall was that I could tell the mattress was older. I could feel some of the springs while I was laying down. It wasn't enough to keep me awake though.

Maps make Heraklion look big, but it was a very easy, short walk to the center of town from the hotel. When I left, I walked to the bus station and it only took me 15 minutes.

One thing to be careful of is that many of the nearby shops are closed due to the economy. While this isn't a problem during the day, at night it creates areas of darkness. As a girl traveling alone, I stuck to the immediate area rather than go to the center of town by myself.

Stayed here in July '13. Overall it was ok but there are a couple of points that need to be mentioned. First, the hotel advertises to have wi-fi but during our stay it never worked, guy at the reception made up something like it's really slow if every guest uses it at the same time but we didn't get it to work even once. Quite disappointing because it was one of the factors why we chose this hotel. Also, the shower holder was broke so only "hand held" showering was possible. Thr last thing that I would qualify id that the blankets didn't look very clean. The total picture still looks ok though, mainly because of the location and the low price, we paid only 50 euro for 1 night. And in the end the room had all you need, including a working airconditioner.

Modern hotel near everything in Heraklion center. Very polite staff at reception, they speak English and are very helpful.
Bathrooms are new and rooms have big balconies.
The buffet breakfast is ok, it can be improved.
There is free wifi but often you must go to the Ground floor to get fast service.

The hotel was pretty basic but clean. Staff was friendly and even though we arrived way before check in time, the front desk manager was able to get our room ready in 20 minutes. It is located pretty centrally so you can walk to all the attractions, we even walked to the mall, which took about 20 minutes. Buffet breakfasst was included. Honestly the hotel didn't stand out but then we didn't really enjoy Heraklion that much. However it was a very affordable option and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the hotel, so the bottom line is that it is in a very good location if you need to stay a couple of nights.

I stayed on my own at the Iraklion for two nights, while I was exploring Knossos and the other sites around Iraklion, before heading off to another part of the island, and would recommend it if you are looking for somewhere that's good, basic and central. It's a family run hotel, and the best thing about it is the service, all the staff I encountered were really friendly and welcoming, they do that lovely thing of seeming to really enjoy helping you, and take obvious pride in treating each guest like a family friend. The room I was in was quite small but facilities were all fine, it was good value vs what they charge. Breakfast is never the most high priority meal of the day at Greek hotels, but their breakfast is perfectly decent. You're 5 minutes walk from the bars and restaurants of 25 Avgoustou and Korai, and not much further from the port, which is well worth a stroll around. Also very close to the bus stop from which you can catch the bus to Knossos. It's fairly no frills, I wouldn't recommend it for a longer/relaxing stay, but as a central resting place from which you can explore the city and the sites, it's perfectly fine.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the location was not too far (within walking distance) from the action and the room was large and clean. I liked the balcony too. My only complaint about this hotel was that there was a stale oder from previous smokers. We were located on the 5th floor with a view of the rooftops. It wasn't the prettiest sight but, not bad for the price.

We spent four nights at the Iraklion, The room was large and clean, the staff invariably friendly and helpful. Zacarias, the owner, runs his hotel with pride and instills his staff with it as well. It is about 10 easy minutes to the main shopping street with many restaurants, bars and shopping. Google maps shows it in a different location, much closer to the port, so use the physical address to find it.
