“Beautiful Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2014

We stayed here for three nights and had a wonderful time. We had originally booked a one-room pool suite, but (without asking) the hotel had upgraded us to a beautiful villa with two bedrooms right near the beach. They surprised us with treats like fruit, bottled water, chocolates and a complimentary bottle of champagne and wine. The resort is stunning, the service is very attentive and the breakfast was excellent.

Some things that you may want to know about the resort:

-- the property is huge (it's actually three hotels in one)
-- every time you want to go to the lobby or a restaurant that is not near you, you have to call and ask for someone to come shuttle you in a golf cart.
-- there is a kids' program and a golf course.

While we had a great time, we would probably think twice about coming during the high season because we tend to seek quiet and we can easily imagine how crazy this place could get.

Spa tip: Make your spa reservation when you book your trip. They gave us a discount coupon for the spa to compensate for a problem in our bathroom, but it was unusable because the spa was fully booked.

Mosquito tip: bring bug spray. there are lots of mosquitos here.

Stayed here as a family of 4 in September in two of their collection suite rooms.

The rooms were on two floors and were very spacious, albeit we tended not to use the downstairs lounge area. I would describe the rooms as nice but following the traditional cretan style ie quality and more functional than luxurious. Whilst the rooms did have a pool, we did not tend to use it as it was in the shade for much of the day (majority of rooms face North and unless you are in one nearer the beach or facing East, the sun doesn't really reach the veranda and pool until mid afternoon).

The beach area was small but in a sheltered "harbour" which meant it would be safe for small children and provided easy access for swimming in the bay. It had plenty of sun loungers which were well spaced out and of good quality. They also provided water free of charge and there was a sporadic beach service from the sister hotel next door.

The water sports are plentiful and are based at the sister hotel next door and easy to get to either by bare feet or flip flop.

Breakfast whilst nothing to write home about, was more than adequate with the usual hot and cold choices.

As with most of the hotels around here the cost of dinning in the hotel is significantly more than eating out locally. The hotel is probably a bit far to walk into Elounda at night (40 minutes) but it is a 5 minute (and cheap) taxi ride so no great hassle.

The big plus about this hotel was the service and the staff (particulatly at reception) could not have been more helpful or welcoming. My only gripe is that the bar area is very small and has a limited menu ie on returning from a meal at night I couldn't even get a coffee or glass of wine (unless I walked to the sister hotel!). It styles itself as a champagne bar but does not have that feel.

Overall we enjoyed the hotel and our vacation which was a typically beach holiday of doing not a lot. The hotel is on the expensive side for what it provides but with the location, service and size of rooms I didn't grudge it.

We had been to the Porto Elounda Hotel previously and had a chance to visit the Peninsula one evening for a recce. When Secret Escapes advertised the peninsula for a bargain price in early October it was a no-brainer. We've got back yesterday into Gatwick (cold, miserable, rainy) after a week of heaven - temperatures 22-25c with a few clouds now and then to give a bit of welcome shade. The hotel is just great - loads of room in suite with its own swimming pool, decor very good and fully loaded - including 2 fridges, one on each floor so you don't have to travel too far. Food quality is excellent with full range of choice from Greek cuisine to Italian to English etc. Hotel prices for drinks are a bit pricey but you are paying for the quality of the experience. One negative for TV lovers - no Sky etc - didn't bother us but families with kids/teenagers may find this a de-merit. The staff are absolutely brilliant - even though this was the last week of the season we were looked after very well indeed.

Stayed here in October 2014, such a nice greeting from the really lovely receptionist who brought us both out complimentary drinks, stunning views from the outside area.

We were greeted by the manager who was extremely lovely and made sure to inform us that he was available for anything if we needed him. We were then taken to our room on a little golf buggy as it was down a steep hill and would be difficult to walk with our suitcases.

We arrived at our villa and the porter happily took both of our cases into the room and explained where different things were, he was very nice. The room was lovely, it was very spacious and we had our own pool and a stunning views to the beach. The showers are excellent, power shower and probably the best shower iv had in a hotel. Also the jacuzzi bath was lovely to, couldn't fault the room at all apart from a little ants nest by the front door which I imagined came from under the door as there was a lot of ants outside. Not a problem though, we didn't complain as there were only a few and just by the door.

The only problem i experienced was the TV only had a few English channels and these were all news channels that said the same things. It would be good if they had some film channels in English or a few more selections apart from the news. However, they do offer DVD's at reception which are in English that you can watch as they have a DVD player in the room so we chose to do this in the nights we stayed in.

We ate in the Nafiska restaurant, it is a buffet style restaurant so you go up and help yourself. The food was nice. They do have a selected few other restaurants that offer a bigger and more higher quality food but however I didn't try these.

You get free bottles of water everywhere in the hotel around 3 times a day, in your room at the beach but when we went into the restaurant we were offered water just thinking it came free with the food. Then at the end were handed a bill for €5.50. Nobody had told us that we had to pay for the water or that it was so expensive just for one bottle we were just offered it with our food. I just don't think it is right that you get water handed to you everywhere in the hotel but as soon as you step into the restaurant you have to pay for it. Another family opposite us clearly thought the same as they had brought one of the bottles of water they were handed out for free in there room into the restaurant and the waiter had told him that it wasn't allowed and to put it under the table.

However, the overall resort is stunning and people can't be more helpful for you. They won't let you pour your own drinks and are willing to do anything to help you have a lovely stay. The private beach is stunning and the views are amazing. They also hand you out towels and cold bottles of water for free whilst you sunbathe. I would definitely recommend the hotel if you don't mind spending a lot of money or if you have the money to spend and don't mind the price.

I would definitely go back it was a lovely experience and the people are so friendly everywhere you go in the resort. Stunning resort, beautiful rooms. Really happy with the service I was provided overall. The staff are definitely willing to do anything for you and make you feel like they want you there. If you have the chance to go I would take it as you will have such a relaxing lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Elounda Village is a €7 taxi journey down the road if you wanted more cheaper options for food and d...

We stayed for 7 days in the Peninsula Hotel in Elounda. We were housed in room 51 Amorgis, it was superb. The accommodation was extra specially spacious and luxurious with fantastic views over the Bay of Mirabello. A great experience made even more special by the attentive, welcoming and very friendly staff. Brilliant

Room Tip: All rooms have sea views. Rooms vary in size depending on your requirements and budget.

My husband and I stayed here on our 10th anniversary vacation. The staff were extremely helpful and every accommodation was made to ensure we had a pleasant stay. This is a very family friendly hotel and as such breakfast, dinner and even sunbathing on the beach sometimes became a noisy affair.
The hotel is situated on a quiet bay not actually quite in Elounda (really an equidistant 5 min taxi ride from Ag Nik and Elounda). The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and always ready to go out of their way.
As a traveler who likes to mix in relaxing beaches with some sightseeing, my one recommendation would be for the hotel to provide a shuttle perhaps once an hour during peak times of day to Ag Nik or Elounda (this was an added touch our hotel in Mykonos offered that we found made the island more accessible when staying in a resort-like location). From either of those locations you can catch a very good/reliable bus or a boat to Spinalonga for some outings. There is a bus stop located a good hike up to the main road however it is a very busy road and we didn't quite feel comfortable hiking along it for a bit.
This was an excellent hotel and we very much enjoyed our stay and recommend it highly especially for a family friendly get away.
