We stayed at the Blue Palace in Eloundra it was recommended to us by a couple we met a couple of years ago in Barbados they said it was one of the best hotels they had ever stayed in.
After being to many 5 star hotels quite a few of which have being in Dubai we were certainly not let down. We booked a room with a heated pool which was simple amazing probably the best room we have ever stayed in. It was huge from our bathroom you could look out on to the sea the view was fantastic.
The restaurants were all fantastic we had a meal in a different restaurant each night then returned to our favourites. A big tip would be to book the half board option it is certainly worth the money. We were eating 3 courses of really nice food that you would find in an expensive restaurant at home and it was only costing us for our drinks. Drinks are quite expensive but no different to a lot of the other hotels in the same area of the same class. They were not as expensive as what we had paid on previous holidays to Dubai.
The people that worked at the hotel were all really helpful and friendly, nothing like the reviews on trip adviser. One thing i would say is take no notice of some of the reviews about the hotel and food. We had some of the best meals we have ever had at the hotel and we only had a fish dish once.... Reviews from other people say the menus are all fish this is certainly untrue the meals were fantastic. They have a Asian, Italian, Steakhouse and a fantastic Greek restaurant with a lovely setting by the sea. One thing to mention was the breakfast the choice was vast with even different types of champagne included.
Plaka is a 10 minute walk from the hotel, you can eat there in the restaurants also and buy gifts etc. We bought wine from the store there which was really cheap around 5 euros and had a couple of glasses next to the pool before we went for our meal. Eloundra is around 20 - 25 minutes walk which is a little larger with more choice. Taxis to Eloundra are 7 Euros each way, car hire on the island is very reasonable if you shop around. Further a field you can visit Agios Nicholas it is around 25 minutes drive and costs 20 euros each way in a taxis. This is much better for shopping if you like a good shopping trip, food in restaurants and wine and beer is also much cheaper there due to the competition.
One other place to go is a boat trip across to Spinalonga Island you can see it from the hotel, it was previously a leper colony if you like reading make sure you buy the book The Island by Victoria Heslop the story is based around the Island and Plaka and lovely to read while lying in the sun looking at the Island. So many people were reading it in the hotel.
Spa was lovely, I had a hot stones massage which was fantastic prices were no different to a good spa back in England.
Overall we would both 100% the Blue Palace in Eloundra it is a lovely resort especially for a relaxing break. Ideal for a romanic holiday or a relaxing break.
We would certainly recommend this hotel and stay here again.
