“Loved the view”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2008

We ended up staying at the tasmania by accident. The accomodation we had booked in the centre of Elounda had decided not to open so we were placed at the Tasmania instead.

On arrival when faced with the massive hill up to the apartments we were quite horrified as we have two small children and couldnt see how we would manage but decided to hire a car and the location was no longer an issue.

The apartment we stayed in was number 21 was lovely and newly furnished and has a fantasic view over Spinalonga.

Anna the owner couldnt have been more helpful and was a really lovely lady.

Overall we had a great time and would go back.

My girlfriend and I have recently stayed at Tasmania Village for two weeks. Having read the reviews on Trip Advisor, we were slightly anxious before arrival. Why did we book Tasmania? We wanted a cheap two weeks in Crete staying in a relaxing setting that we could use as a 'base of operations'.

In my opinion Tasmania gets varied reviews depending on what people's expectations are. For us, Tasmania was excellent. Here's a few notes based on our experience and other reviews.

Costs: A/C 6E a day, 40E per week. To stay until 5pm on departure day is 20E. The A/C does work, and is highly recommended.

Cleanliness: Rooms are reasonably clean, but don't look under the bed. Cleaning happens once every four days, so the bin does tend to overfill and the bathroom floor become dirty.

Kitchenette: Fine. No kettle, like most accomodation like this in Crete. The fridge did not work to begin with, as it was set at maximum cool. At 50% setting worked fine.

Balcony: We were in room no.6, and the view was fantastic. We spent many hours reading or playing cards on the balcony. Some rooms do not have such good views, and indeed the famous room 20 did look awful.

Friendliness of owner: Fine, the older chap even gave us a lift into Elounda once.

Walk into Elounda: About 30 minutes. It follows a purpose built pavement along the shoreline past beaches and boats. It is along the road, but the road is not busy.

Supplies: The Elounda blue bay hotel next door has a very basic super market, the closest is otherwise 20 mins walk.

Pool: Clean and has a wonderful view. Watching the sun set on the spinalonga fortress is magic.

Parking: We hired a car for a week and Tasmania has plenty of parking.

Stairs: Tasmania is on a hill, and thus has lots of steep stairs. It is not recommended if you don't like them!

Agios Nik: A bus goes about hourly from Elounda, 2.60E return. Check out the Crete Travel website for bus timetables.

Myself and two girlie mates stayed at Tasmania Village from 22nd- 28th August on a chilling holiday.
We had a lovely time there.
Anna (the Aussie owner) was lovely and made us feel really welcome and at home. Nothing was too much for her. Plus she was a great cook!
Our room was in my opinion basic but liveable.
The view from our room (22) was awesome!

On a negative point - the cleaning of the rooms, the changing of the toilet paper bin and the changing of the towels needed doing more often. Also the pool needed a good clean around the edges even though cleaning chemicals were put in the pool.

On the whole we had a lovely stay and would recommend to a friend by saying its basic but good for chilling by the pool and the beach was 30 seconds away!

Thanks Anna and Crew
xx

The poorest accomodation that we have ever experienced in Greece. Room sparsely furnished - to the extreme!

Cleaning poor to non exisitent.

Dust under the beds so thick, could have been mistaken for a carpet.

Toilet brush holder full on filthy water, this held a disgusting used toilet brush.

Towels & Sheets provided all complete with holes & only fit for the dustbin.

Toilet roll not supplied, told to go & buy our own - this has never happened in any other accomodation!

Owners, only friendly to some guests, appeared to be those who spent time & money at the very uncomfortable & cafeteria style pool bar.

The surrounding area of the appartments in need of attention, lots of weeds that could easily have been removed. Steps leading up to the building consistently covered in leaves, not swept very often.

The owners appeared to spend all of their day sittting at pool bar ensuring all rules were adhered to by guests. It seemed that they had no pride their property & preferred not to do the basic daily tasks that would have made a bit of difference.

Kosmar Reps , transferring & at appartments- waste of time!! We wereon the coach returning to the airport for just over an hour before the rep spoke, this included telling us to ensure our seat belts were on!

Elounda beautiful, plenty of nice tavernas with very pleasant & friendly staff.

Would visit again but not be staying at Tasmania Village

On arrival at the Tasmania Village Appartments at 4am in the morning all we did was go to bed and the appartment we were allotted was room 18. When we got up in the morning and opened the patio doors to get a sea view but all we got was a view of a dirty brick wall 12ft away with a dead tree planted in front of the patio doors. We asked the owner to be moved she said see the kosmar rep but she was no help either.

Elounda is a quite location and suitable for a relaxing holiday but would not recommend staying in the Tasmania Village Appartments and one of the dreaded rooms especially room 18

After just returning from a 2 week holiday in crete, we thought it wise to warn unsuspecting couples about the tasmaina village appartments. Firstly the quality of the room, it was clean but basically furnised (however for the price we paid that was pretty much expected) and thats about as good as it gets!!! For one thing the apartments aren't actually in Elounda, the brochure states a 2Km walk to elouda...what it does not say is that the walk is along a busy road (and in the heat it feels far, far longer) there are no shops / taverna's (or beach) along this road so there are very few chances to have a rest (you will get fit doing this everyday) - the walk itself took us about 1/2 an hour each way!

Other problems with the room (please don t stay in the dreaded room 20 like us!!) we had a nightly infestation of Ants - mosquitos and other wild life (at one point a lizard crossed the ceiling) the drains over flowed outside our room - it took 2 days before they were clean - by which time we had a healthly cockroach population in the room - nice to return to after the long walk!!

Also - take your own toilet paper as this is chargable (i ve been in a few self catering hotels and thats never happened before!!)

cleaning was lax to say the least one time the cleaner came before we were ready - said she would come back in 5 mins, we never saw her again (the room remained unclean!!)

The couple who own it are indeed very clicky (they do seem to favor certain guests - those who seem to return regularly) this makes for some very uncomfortable situations.

However apart from the problems with the accomodation elouda is a lovely place for a holiday - good food, nice beach freindly people - really enjoyable, the problem is that the tasmania village is no where near elounda.
