“Relaxation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

We had a wonderful all inclusive stay at this hotel. As a teacher I wanted a hotel without children and this was perfect. The atmosphere around the hotel, by the pool, at the beach and in the restaurant was calm, quiet and relaxing. There were wonderful views around the bay to Spinalonga. The pool was chilly and wonderfully refreshing. Not many people chose to swim so there was always lots of space in the pool.
The food was fantastic, with lots of choice and the chance to try a range of local dishes. We enjoyed the all inclusive option as we were able to drink as much as we wanted- a huge plus when the weather was hot. We enjoyed a range of drinks- especially the very strong tequila sunrises. The asian restaurant on the roof made a nice change on evening. The location was close enough to be able to stroll down to Elounda.
Our room was clean and had everything we needed. The rooms were all set within little lanes along the cliff, which meant it didn't feel like a hotel.

We made a few outings to Elounda, caught a boat trip to Spinalonga, took the happy train to the mountains. It was nice to get out and about a little bit and enjoy the location. It would have been a shame to just stay at the hotel!

The transfer from the airport was a little long but it was a nice opportunity to see a bit more of the island.

Two negatives- In order to get sunbeds by the pool we had to use towels to reserve them quite early in the morning. I don't like doing this but it was the only way to ensure we got sunbeds as everyone else was doing it. Some couples were reserving sunbeds early in the morning and then disappearing for hours and hours before returning to use the sunbeds.

The pool was also salter than the sea- made eyes a bit sore so goggles would be useful.

The hotel is set in a good location within easy reach of Elounda town centre (about a 20min walk). In Elounda there as a large selection of bars and restaurants and quite a few souvenir shops with traditional holiday gifts and also traditional Cretan arts and crafts.

The hotel is set on a steep hill but then that's what we were expecting having read previous reviews. Both the pool and beach area were well maintained and both had great service at the bars. The food in the hotel was of a high standard, the hotel provided themed nights such as Mediterranean, Greek and Cypriot nights and Cretan nights. The Asian restaurant was lovely (if all inclusive you can visit it once during your stay for an evening meal and half board you get a discount). The staff could not do enough for you and we're very friendly. They really enjoy getting to know you whilst you are staying there.

The rooms were basic with all the necessary facilities. If you like a hard bed then this is the hotel for you but if not, be warned it is slightly uncomfortable. Also, we had a problem with our air conditioning which was tried to be sorted out by the staff but we continued to have problems, so much so that it was spitting out ice. You may need to keep your bathroom door and patio door shut during the time you want it on.

As a tip, if your flight home is late at night there is a charge to keep your room on until 4pm, however, if you go down to soma spa (linked to the hotel) you can book a shower for free which you can enjoy before your pick up time. The transfer time from the airport is 2 and a half hours by coach but personally we don't like coaches so book a taxi transfer which only took 40mins there and back.

Overall, food, staff and location excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: If you don't like walking then request a room with a sea view and then you are likely to get one...

My husband and I stayed here for two weeks in July to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we were not disappointed! What a fabulous hotel in a fabulous location with amazing staff - we can't praise them highly enough! We live in New Zealand and have travelled quite widely over the last few years and Elounda Blu really stands out for us. We were on an extended holiday to visit friends and family in the U.K. and decided to take a relaxing holiday in Greece for a couple of weeks as we had our honeymoon there. Everything was perfect from the amazing view and the shared pool, which was bigger than we expected, to the food and the area in general - just lovely. We had intended to see more of the island but the views were to die for and our days were spent relaxing by our own pool in the mornings when it was sunny and then off down to the beach or for a trip into town in the afternoons when the pool was in shade. The evenings were very relaxing and we enjoyed dinner at sunset most nights. The entertainment seemed pretty good, but we didn't stay most nights - preferred to go for a romantic stroll by the sea! The trip to Spinalonga was more than worth it and we also enjoyed the train trip up into the mountains. The walk to Elounda was very easy and paved all the way and we enjoyed the variety of tavernas there for lunch and drinks. The walk to Plaka is a little more difficult and the path not so good so not recommended at night, but it is definitely well worth a visit as it's a very cute little town and the shops there are a little more interesting (and expensive). We had amazing fish and prawns at a taverna right on the seafront and lovely ice-cold beer! Just loved everything about our holiday and really hope to return one day - maybe for our 50th Wedding anniversary! Perhaps the hill will be a little too much for us then!

Overall the hotel is in a beautiful area the vista is amazing,
When you arrive at the hotel in the coach ,this is a major hill it has to climb.1st hill
we were allocated a room on level 5 the porter met us on a golf trolley this is a hill a mountain goat would struggle with
This is not really made clear when we booked ,when the temp is 35 plus this is a tough climb ,
The room was nice I would say similar to a travel lodge everything thing there but noting spectacular not four star .only one socket in the room,
The food and service in the restaurant was great ,the waiters were totally on the ball, and nothing was too much trouble.
We went half board not all inclusive ,big mistake the cost of the drinks were off the scale ,a large beer was five euros a Bacardi coke six and half.
this included a service charge every time you had a drink .if you wanted to a few drinks in the hotel ,make sure you took plenty of money, or go into elounda ,To the tavernas .
The waiters in the bar was great the staff in the hotel was so helpful and friendly and this seemed to be genuine
The pool was salt water my personal, opinion how it should be in a four star hotel. it's a first in everywhere we've been .
We would return to elounda as the area is fantastic but would probably go to a hotel nearer the harbour

We arrived independently (finding it cheaper to book our own flights)to a very friendly welcome and was shown to our room which was on a very steep hill (level 5). If you suffer with a bad back or can't walk very far this hotel isn't for you. But it was a beautiful view, with very clean ground and caring staff. Our room was basic and quite small compared to what we are used to, but very clean. The air conditioning only works when you are in the room so takes a while to cool down. The views were magnificent from our balcony looking straight at Spingalonga. The hotel was very quiet probably because it was adult only. They tried hard with entertainment most nights. Food was very good though as a vegetarian there needed to be little more choice especially with salads, some nights every salad bar the greek salad had meat in it.
The pool was clean but we only used it once as we felt rather like sardines in a tin around it so spent all our time at the beach, which yet again was clean. The sea crystal clear and a good bar service.
The hotel staff were really good at organising hire cars and bikes etc.
Overall this was a most enjoyable and relaxing holiday. I would recommend going into Elounda and visiting the Friends bar for good cheap cocktails.

Stayed at Elounda Blu for the first week in August. Arrived late at night to a clean and thankfully air conditioned room and woke up to a beautiful sea view.
Hotel transfer is around an hour by taxi (90€) or 2 and a half hours via the coach transfer.
First off the hotel itself is in a stunning location. Set in a beautiful place roughly a 20 minute walk into the town centre so still plenty to do if you wanted to venture out. Walk to Plaka is around 45 minutes if you want to venture a little further. You have a sea view from most parts of the hotel, the views from the dining area are beautiful.
The staff could not do more to help you and were constantly busy trying to keep every guest happy and comfortable.
The food was amazing. I am a particularly fussy eater and was concerned I wouldn't like anything but I was spoilt for choice. Everything is fresh and there's a wide variety served each day all clearly labeled so you know what some of the more traditional Greek dishes are. Again excellent service in the dining area.
Entertainment was a bit hit/miss but it's what you expect from this kind of place. The reggae singer was very good though.
The pool area is very relaxing and we never had a problem getting a sun lounger. Yes some people reserve them but there are plenty to go around.
The Soma spa area below the pool area is a hidden treasure. You can use the jacuzzi and indoor pool area for free and it is the perfect way to cool down after a day in the sun.
Beach area is small but clean and seemed quiet when we ventured down.
I have visited many of the Greek islands and this is the only one I would definitely return to.
Cannot praise either the hotel or location enough. If you want a relaxing escape then this is the place to go.
