“Wonderful hotel, excellent staff, great views=amazing honeymoon!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2012

We arrived at the Elounda Blu slightly worried after having read some of the reviews on this site, however, we could not have been more happy with our honeymoon! The hotel is clean, modern and the staff are so friendly.

Personally, we encountered no problems with anything in our room or at all during our holiday but I have no doubt that anything would have been dealt with efficiently having seen how well the hotel is run.

Our room was spotlessly clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. We arrived to flower petals in the shape of a heart on our bed, a bottle of Cretan wine and a lovely bowl of fresh fruit to celebrate our honeymoon-a lovely start to our holiday. The porter who brought our bags to our room was so friendly and whenever we past him at the hotel he asked about our holiday and asked if we were having a good time. All the staff from the receptionists, restaurant waiters/waitresses right to the maids were polite, friendly and took every opportunity to make genuine conversation with you.

The views from this hotel are outstanding, we had a room with a shared pool looking directly out over the island of Spinalonga (a must see for a day out-very interesting) and to the aegean sea beyond-it was so beautiful we hardly moved from our sun loungers the entire holiday! Others have commented on the steepness of the hill leading to the hotel and subsequently to some rooms-there is no doubt that is steep but in our opinion the elevated position and views that this hotel offers makes the walk so worthwhile. We are in our 20's and fairly fit and in the heat of the day the walk was hard but as long as you take it slow and take plenty of water it's fine!

The food at the restaurant was varied and there were various 'theme nights' including Italian night (where you were offered Grappa and bruscetta canapes on arrival) Greek night (free shot of Raki) fish night etc. The food was of good quality and freshly prepared at breakfast and for dinner, as we were half board we did not have lunch but our neighbours said it was as nice as the evening meal. Only downside was the price of drinks if not all inclusive (3.50 euros for a beer and 4 euros for a small glass of wine) and prices were also expensive at the bar in the evening compared to places in Elounda town. I have mentioned staff already but particularly the waiting staff in the restaurant were fantastic, so friendly and attentive-under the watchful eye of Manos, the manager, they did not put a foot wrong but remained relaxed and personable to customers.

The walk into Elounda town is a pleasant 20-25 min stroll along a coastal path, during the heat of the day take water as its a little way from the hotel before you get to the nearest supermarket. At night the pavement is quite dimly lit and as the path is a little uneven I would say to be careful (I broke 2 pairs of sandals falling into ditches!) a taxi from Elounda to the hotel is only 5 euros and i would recommend that as it takes 2 minutes and they take you back up the dreaded hill at the hotel (bonus!) !

All in all we had a fabulous honeymoon, we are so happy that we booked the hotel and having a private shared pool was our best decision as it was so peaceful and the views sensational. We hope to return very soon!

Room Tip: If you can book a room with a private/shared pool, definitely worth the money!

Just ended our firstt of two weeks - don't really see what the complants are. we have a room with private pool right at the top of the complex, the walk is a killer and we are sure the hotel could address this with buggie cars or similar.
Room - Fine
Food - Good and varied
Location and view - excellent
Bar - a little expensive but happy hour helps!
Staff - First class
Overall we are enjoying our stay and looking forward to our second week, we have stayed in better hotels and most certainly worse ones - the views, staff, peace and quiet make this a nice place to stay, the walk into Elounda is worthwhile!
NOTE:WE READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE COMING and as usual we take them WITH A PINCH OF SALT!

I cannot fault this hotel at all & was worried because of all the bad reviews, however I'm wondering whether some people stayed in the same hotel as me as it was brilliant.
We stayed in a suite with private pool, the pool was very private and we had a large private decking area with sun loungers. The decking area had the sun all day as we were at the top of the hotel. The room was very nice, had recently been refurbished and was very light, airy and spacious. We had two separate shower rooms and two separate balconies plus our decking area. The room was very clean and the maids come everyday to tidy up and provide clean towels.
The breakfast buffet was very good with lots of choice and the evening buffet was also very good. We also ate at the Asian roof top restaurant at the hotel and I would recommend this to anyone as the food was amazing.
We did not use the main pool area but we went to the beach which is very nice, the watersports are not very good but I recommend walking 5 minutes up the road to ipanema beach for watersports, the crazy sofa was a blast! The views were amazing from our room and I would advise anyone to get up early one morning to watch the sun rise.
The only bad thing I would say is that despite the hotel being for adults only we had a very young, childish American/Canadian couple next door to us who shouted & screamed all day and also decided to sneak onto our decking area one night and turn all the furniture upside and throw our towels on the floor.
However, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would definately go back again!

I cannot for the life of me understand the poor reviews! Yes, the coach transfer was 2 hours but thats what happens when you book a hotel far away from the airport!

On arrival we were greeted warmly at reception and had our bags taken up to reception by Alex, who was extremely friendly! The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, well decorated and what we were expecting, the shower was a particularly nice surprise. The view from the hotel room was absolutely spectacular. I really do not know what all the negative reviews regarding the room were about as it was perfect, when you pay 540 each for a weeks stay in a hotel you should not be expecting ritz-style accommodation. In my opinion, this is a 4* hotel, and the rating is the greek star rating system.

The staff were all extremely friendly, welcoming and supportive and catered to our every need.

The food choices for breakfast were excellent and the staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Although some of the other guests were rude to the staff, the staff treated you as individuals and were not rude in return. As we were half-board, i cannot comment on the quality and range of food available at lunch, however the evening service offered a wide variety of different food choices. The only downside is the price of drinks. A bottle of coke was around 3euros.

The pool area was spotless however there was a significant lack of sun beds. Due to guests leaving their towels on the beds despite a warning sign saying it is strictly forbidden. I suggest that the management of the hotel remove the towels to allow other guests, who actually want to sit around the pool area the opportunity to do so.

Elounda itself was beautiful and the walk along the shore line was safe and took around 20 minutes. The walk is well lit so is not too difficult to do it at night. The main downside, as other guests have commented is the hill. For us it wasnt too much of a problem however older, less able and disabled guests may struggle with the hill.

All in all, the hotel and holiday were perfect. Cannot fault the staff and the views were spectacular. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and will definitely be returning in the future.

The Elounda Blu has the most amazing stunning views you could wish for, everyone was so friendly from the hotel manager to the waiters etc, nothing was too much trouble, i would have to say the only disappointing thing for me was how basic the rooms where and the lighting and drawer space were poor! but as i said before the Staff , food and views made up for that, and you have to go down to the beach bar and see the girl who looks after the bar on the beach she is called Natasha, she is so lovely with everyone.
You can walk from the hotel into the centre of Elounda and in the other direction you can walk into Plaka were you will find the most amazing bars they are so romantic and full of atmosphere.
How anyone can say don't go to Greece right now because of their present enconomic situation is beyond me, we had no trouble whatsover and i would go back to Crete or any of the Island tomorrow.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a super ior room with a pool if you can afford it they are lovely.

Just got back and wanted to share my thoughts of the Elounda Blu hotel.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and with my partner being 6 months pregnant we were pleased to being given a room a short way up the steep hill. (it is steep, no denying that)

The room was basic but we didn't mind. It has a small bathroom with a shower (with an overhead shower head, a six nozzle body jet and flexible head). A large firm bed, a tv (not many channels for English speakers, BBC news channel was the highlight) but no tea/coffee facilities. The decor is ummm odd and looks dated but the rooms next to ours seemed to being through a makeover so I would hope the other rooms follow suit. The view from from the room is just stunning and worth every penny. Highly recommend that you wake up extra early to watch the sunrise, it's simply stunning and you'll never forget it.

Food and drink, we went all inclusive so don't know how much meals cost. We just had to wear a blue wristband to indicate we were all inclusive. You can get a drink or snacks from the pool bar (within reason, there's a list of things you can have on all-in) and also from the beach bar. Natassa at the beach gave the best drinks service and always had a warm smile, we will miss her. Each night the meals were varied and quite nice. Some things might not be to everyone's taste but it suited us. Again, the service was excellent but they are keen to clear your plates quickly but not rushing you out, think they just like tidy tables. Sitting out on the balcony for breakfast or evening meals are a must as the view makes it wonderful.

The pool is seawater based but you do need the refreshing dip to cool off if there's no breeze. You need to get to the pool early to reserve a sunbed, just place towels (available from reception) on your chosen beds then go for breakfast.

We chose the beach over the pool as it was a bit cooler with the breeze. It's not a sandy beach it's quite stoney and with it being mostly black it can get hot under feet by midday, flip-flops are an essential to get not the water. The water has very very small waves (non-tidal) and only gets choppy when a boat goes past. Get a snorkel! There's so many fish around the little piers and it's really clear water. Just walking back up the hill to your room will wear you out. We've come home with fitter legs!

That's enough rambling but the verdict is we would go back in a heartbeat. If you want a relaxed stay with great memories and service then Elounda Blu is the place to go.
