We booked this hotel as it looked amazing in the brochure and on-line. Unfortunately the hotel did not meet our expectations. The food was awful, we were on half board but only ate our dinner there one evening. The buffet looked awful, the choice was poor and the quality of the food very poor. Breakfast was very average. The best food was by the beach in the restaurant where you could order fresh pasta dishes however this was expensive and cost approximately £70 for lunch for 2 (no wine). It was supposed to be all inclusive, but only house wine was included with dinner. Drinks around the pool had to be paid for and lunches. The best thing about the hotel is the Spa, very very good. Nice treatments and lovely in/out pool. The location is great, however water sports are misleading as we believe there to be slalom skiing, but there was nothing, we were told they had stopped this because the current was too strong, again nothing in the brochure about this. \The air conditioning was very poor. It was pre-set by the hotel so we could not get our rooms cool enough to sleep. We moved rooms but it was not much better. The daytime temperature was 35 degrees and no air-con to speak of. We would not visit again.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to review porto elounda Golf & Spa resort and for your very positive comments in regards to the location of the hotel, the six senses spa and the Aglio & Olio restaurant of the hotel.
We are really sorry you didn’t enjoy your dinner at the buffet of the international restaurant “Nafsika”, but to be honest we are not planing any changes on the menu for 2015 as the feedback we have had from the questionnaires sent to all our guests was rated “excellent” by 94%. Regarding your comment about the rates, please note that 40€ for a three course lunch per person at a 5 star hotel is below the rates of international standards, while if you would like to be fair with us you should mention that we also give a 20€ credit per person to use for lunch or dinner, for those who chose a different option to “ Nafsika” restaurant. So the price actually paid was 20€ per person. Finally please note that slalom is always available at our water sports but this obviously depends on weather conditions.
Thank you once again for taking the time to review our property and for giving us the chance to clear the air regarding your comments.
Best Regards
Ilias

I loved especially the hotel's facilities, the private beach and the excelent food in the hotel's restaurant.
I stayed at the hotel on halfboard basis and it desappointed me that I had to pay full price for dinner, instead of the hotel's restaurant, in another restaurant of the company's neighboring hotels.

We were there in October 2014 after moving from another hotel, and got our money worth. Porto Elounda is a real 5 star hotel, very clean, friendly and professional staff. good food short taxi ride to Elounda.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2014 via mobile

I was traveling with 2 kids (3 & 5). I had booked my room directly with the hotel and discussed the mini club for the kids over the phone with the woman in charge of the reservation. She NEVER mentioned anything about the price of the mini club and when I got there I had the unpleasant surprise of discovering that my 3 yo had to pay 60€ a day or 50€ half day to go to the mini club. Of course they deliberately did not mention it over the phone when I booked ! I had the feeling they cheated on me and trapped me once I got there.
Also, you can decide to pay for half board and if you want to use the half board for the lunch (instead of the dinner) they give you a voucher but the value voucher you get is inferior to what you pay for half board (ie, for 3 adults and 2 children half board is 145€ but the voucher we got is 80€ !!)
Once again, they steal from us. They see the client as a purse and try to make you pay for everything in a VERY dishonest way.

Conclusion: although Crete is a very nice place, I have HATED this hotel and strongly recommend that you try another one !

Dear visitors of this website
We would like to inform you that this review is a result of a threat we have decided not to comply with.
This client took a voucher for 20€ every day (per person), used it for lunch, and on the 6th day asked for reimbursement and sent an email saying that she "knows how a tripadvisor ranking is important and how easy it can go down." In the same email the client said "I went through our emails today and I found the PDF document you sent me about the Kids Ark,the price is indeed listed" while her review states that our reservations manager "NEVER mentioned anything about the price of the mini club".
On the 24th of October we had a meeting with our lawyers where we decided not to comply with this threat and to inform TripAdvisor about the situation.
We strongly believe that our decision was correct.
We are confident that the vast majority of users agree with us that Tripadvisor is and should remain a website where clients share their experiences and not a tool for threatening hoteliers to comply with improper demands.
Thank you for taking the time to read our reply.
Best Regards
Ilias

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2014

I visited here at the end of August. It started off a bit shaky with an awful experience with v v slippery steps and confusion over the dine around. But after we set that aside our holiday was lovely!
The rooms are simple, very clean and benefit from the most amazing views! The beds are comfy, the showers hot and the toiletries were FAB!
The restaurant over the pool was good but the pool could have benefitted from a clean???? A little forgotten maybe? The bar nearby was run by George who was great remembering my order and warm milk for my son but again the pool a little dirty??? Such a shame as the view is first class?
The food food in the restaurants was to a very high standard but the hotel was so inflexible with the children? Why? This is supposed to be the family friendly hotel out of the 3? To get pasta for my son at lunch time was a headache but they did concede in the end so why the resistance to such a simple request????. We also had this when my nephew ordered Garlic Bread in the Italian - a flat NO! He's 11 and it's Italian? ...............
We travelled with Powder Byrne who are AMAZiNG with families and children and convinced us to come back next year.
So despite my whines it is a great places for families and typifies Greece but does need to be a little more flexible in the future if it wants to survive in a highly competitive end of the market.
Be aware it's a long steep walk to the beach/pool and few children's menu - I don't want chicken nuggets but small pasta dishes or small grown up dinners are hard come by here.
I know I sound hard but we did enjoy this hotel and we are returning next year as it has more plus points than negative points.

Dear Guest
Thank you for taking the time to review porto elounda Golf & Spa resort, for all your positive comments and for the fact that you intend to visit us again next year. Repeat clients is the award that every hotelier is looking for.
Regarding your comments, I can assure you they have all been very well noted and taken into serious consideration for our 2015 operation. We did have a serious problem with the pools at the restaurant level which was not due to not cleaning them, but from some damage that was made to the tiles during the total renovation of the restaurant. Unfortunately we were not able to empty the pools and replace the tiles during the operation of the hotel for safety reasons, but we will be replacing them during winter when the hotel will be closed.
Also please note that we are already preparing our 2015 F&B menus and prices, which will include a kids menu in the main restaurants of the resort, with a number of options.
Finally please note that the distance from the hotel the the private beach is only 250m, while a buggy is always available at the reception and the beach area to transfer guests that don’t wish to walk. We are really sorry if this option was not communicated to you during your stay.
Your feedback was really important and helpful for us and we would like to thank you for one more time for that.
Looking forward to welcoming you back to porto elounda Golf & Spa resort next year.
Best Regards

Excellent in almost all respects. We could point to what we consider to be improvements to be made but nothing of any serious note. On the plus side we can highlight the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff we came into contact with. Otherwise there is a great deal on offer that will keep you going happily for a week or more and certainly well fed. Try one of the rooms with its own private pool or immediate access to a larger, shared pool. The only niggle worth mentioning is the five star price of alcohol and food in the specialty restaurants but the quality of both is high

Room Tip: Second floor with private pool
