“Rotten Vritomartes”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

We've been to this restaurant lseveral times, but on tonight we were let down. The fish was off, the mixed grill consisted of a burger and a frankfurter, and was burnt to a crisp, and the serving staff definitely should have gone to Specsavers because we seemed to be invisible to them. It took almost ten minutes just to order more drinks. If you are Elounda, don't go to this place, go to the Lotus Eaters or the Ergospasio (sp?). They are definitely better.

“great food let down by service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

one of the bigger restaurants in elounda sitting right in the harbour, it has a good selection of seating areas mixed between waterfront with no shelter, totally enclosed or partially open, you do not feel closed in due to the panoramic windows , it offers views virtually 360 degrees due to its location.
the first time we visited, the food especially garlic&mozarella bread was delicious and service efficient, so we thought we would visit again on another night, how different and disappointing the service was, if we hadnt been so hungry we would probably have got up and walked out, it took an absolute age for them to come and take our order , even longer for them to deliver the drinks , and even longer for the starters to arrive. as we were halfway through the starters, the waiter tried to serve our mains, which, as we had not finished eatiing starters, we had to send back to the kitchen, when they were eventually reserved they tasted as if they had been cooked afresh and not reheated.an age then for the bill to be presented. its a real shame the poor service on our second visit let this restaurant down

“Good food, bad service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We visited twice...the first time the food was good and the service was a bit slow so we wanted to go again.
The location is great which is enticing, but on our second visit we found it hard not to get up and leave.
We waited a long time for the menu, a long time for the wine to arrive and had a different waiter each time.
We ordered our food which one would expect to have the same time as the other guest at the table...they seemed it appropriate to bring one main out...leave us waiting for 10-15 mins with no communication about the other main course. I shouted to one waiter who seemed to slightly acknowledge me and rush off...still no main course arrived. In the mean time the food on the table was getting cold...eventually he came over after shouting again to get his attention, he took the food back as we wanted to eat together...they seemed to find it strange we wanted both mains to come out at the same time...because when you go to a restaurant you want to not eat together???
In the end they microwaved the first main course when it all came back out, we were so hungry at that point we just ate it.
The food was good but the service was appalling, they had no idea what was going on there. Would not recommend.

“very disappointed”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We ate here once. The location ans views couldn't be better. Upon being seated the staff were more than pleasent and helpful but that's where it all stopped. I ordered chicken which I was told had been cooked on the griddle, when the chicken came out it looked anaemic and clearly hadn't seen a griddle especially as we were facing it and it was switched off. The first bite of the corner was cool so after another cool bite I thought I'd try the middle to see if it was warmer only to find out that middle was still raw. I mentioned this to the waiter who took the meal but never came back with it warmed or another then avoided us. After this we decided to not get desert. When asking another waiter for the bill I mentioned that my chicken was raw when he asked use what we thought, he preceded to barely give an apology only to avoid us when we were then ready to pay. It took over 30 minutes from receiving the bill to practically pinning someone down to take the money. Very unhappy at such a nice looking place

“Top food and hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013 via mobile

During our recent stay at Elounda we dined at Vritomartes at a few occasions and we were never disappointed: the setting directly at the sea is beautiful, the service was very nice and attentive (we were travelling with two kids 3 & 7) and the food experience was great. Fresh fish, barbequeued with veggies, lobster pasta, pizza for the kids, a rather drinkable (don't think Montrachet, but a fairly priced gulp-me-down without getting a heartburn) white wine, typically followed by desert on the house (there were some delicious doughnut meets profiterole type things - to die for) made for a very pleasant experience. The staff were all very nice, particularly to our, admittedly, adorably blond kids ;-). Great experience. Mind you, I don't expect culinary climaxes in Greece, but that's just my opinion. I would recommend the Vritomartes anytime. In my experience it compares favourably to the local, nearby competition.
