I recently traveled from the US to Chania Greece to attend a wedding for a close friend. The hotel had been booked months ahead of time.

Upon our arrival, we were appalled to find that you could not drive to the entrance of the hotel. The room that we were assigned was about 2 blocks from the main hotel. Who knew there were rooms not attached to the main Hotel????
We had to carry our bags down the cobblestone street to Arrrive at our room which had a flight of stairs to carry the bags up as well.
The room was absolutely horrible!!! The curtains were barely attached to the rod. There were no hooks to hang towels or cups for the bathroom. We were instructed to put soiled toilet paper in the trash can and not flush down the toilet. This list could go on and on, but I hope the picture is already clear that not all rooms at the Doge are adequate.
There was a Hand held shower in a 2x2 foot stall that was located about 3 feet from the floor without a shower curtain so a shower was out of the question and there was no way to keep water from spilling all over the floor. Did I mention that there was no rug to absorb the water so the floor became extremely hazardous and slippery.
This review is sent because we tried to appeal to the check in clerk who insisted that there were NO MORE ROOMS!!! Amazingly we were there when another member of the wedding party arrived and found they had great rooms assigned to them in the main hotel.
It meant NOTHING to the clerk for us to tell her that the worst room (room #1) had been assigned to the father of the bride!!!!
Obviously the Doge does not value repeated customers as we will never recommend or have any other function at this facility.

Room Tip: Do not assume you will get the room that the Doge advertises. Please ask specifically if the room i...

My husband and I stayed at Doge Hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is centrally located. It is easy walking distance to most places in town and the harbor. The street does get quieter at night though so sleeping was not a problem. The room was clean and nice size. The bed was a bit hard, but we found that all the hotels we stayed in Greece had really hard beds. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. It was nice to eat our breakfast outside and watch all the people walking by shopping the boutiques. Parking is a bit far, but manageable if physical limitations are not an issue.

Stayed here for week, loved the location set in a quiet street very close to the harbour. Hotel was very clean, bedding changed every other day and clean towels daily. Breakfast was lovely sat on the cobbled street with the locals and there was ample to eat. All the staff were lovely, so happy and friendly. The hotel is old and traditional this adds to it's charm and for us beats any package type hotel. Everything is nearby, beach is a 10 minute walk but it's a nice walk along the coast.
All different nationalities staying at the hotel giving it a cosmopolitan feel. A great place for a weeks stay.

Room Tip: We had room no.8 which was large and at the back of the hotel so very quiet. Room had a double bed a...

Great location in the center of the old town. Beautifully appointed, spacious room with a kitchenette and lovely, big bed with a canopy. The staff is nice and helpful. We has to leave early one morning, so they packed a nice breakfast for us the night before. With a cute boutique and restaurant downstairs, this is a lovely place to stay.

Amazing rooms with Venetian decoration, hidden in a beautiful stone street, close to everything in old and new Hania. Very good breakfast. Friendly owners, good value. Will be coming back for sure! Free parking can be found close by, you may have to search a little more sometimes, not a big deal for living in the heart of the magnificent old city.

I stayed at the Doge twice in June, 2012. It was clean, reasonably priced and the staff were very helpful, and friendly. It's a stone's throw from the old port, and they serve an excellent breakfast, though it is not included, as most are. Free Wifi, good ice cream, fridges, etc. in the rooms...we were very comfortable.

You had best be traveling fairly light, however, as there are many stairs, and you have to walk in to the old town, as it is closed to vehicles. Still, it was great to be right in the middle of old town, and I would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: The rooms acroos the "street" are more modern and a little better appointed.
