“Fantastic”

Amphora Hotel

My family of 4 stayed at the Amphora hotel for 2 nights in September. We could not have had a better experience. The hotel sits right on the waterfront. Our room (#11) had a small balcony with a beautiful view of Chania harbor. The entire hotel is spotless, and the staff extremely friendly and attentive. The price is very reasonable for a hotel of this quality

I actually loved this hotel by the old port. Our room was so special with its floor boards, high beam roof, gorgeous romantic post bed, balcony port view and the experience could have been so much more special, however, when I booked the staff warned me that the noise from the port might be a problem for us and I had my concerns. As it turned out we were on the second level and the noise from the port at night was not an issue at all...in fact didn't even hear it at night. The problem we had was that stomping of feet being heard by the people in the room above us. For our first few nights we had a guy in there with very heavy feet and that was annoying enough until he left and a family of 5 moved in....well!!! The kids were playing in the room first thing daybreak until all crazy hours of the night. . I informed the lady at reception about the noise and asked if she could please let them know as they might have been unaware of the disturbance they were causing. Nothing was done about it as they were regular clients and I assume she didn't want to cause them an inconenience. After 4 days of stomping and running and jumping we couldn't take it anymore so I had to yell out to them to stop at 7:00am in the morning!!! Well they suddenly stopped but that was on our last day. I would only recommend this hotel if your stay in a room on the top floor otherwise you won't be able to tolerate the noise coming from other guests staying in the room above you.

The Amphora hotel is a traditional style hotel right on the harbour front with excellent views. It is recommended that you try and book one of the harbour view rooms, preferably a quiet one at the top. Rooms are clean, well furnished, have good air conditioning. My room also had triple windows and a balcony overlooking the harbour.

Staff are friendly and very helpful. There is a bookcase full of guidebooks etc. so you will never be short on things to see and do. Breakfast is plentiful - juice, tea/coffee, cereal, bolied eggs, bread, ham, tomatoes, cucumber, yoghart, honey, cake. I guess the only thing that was lacking was bacon, sausages, etc. but to be honest, you probably won't feel like eating that in mediterranean climates. Bring your breakfast up to the rooftop garden for extra enjoyment. The hotel also has a restaurant, where guests get a 10% discount.

All in all, throughly recommended. Would definitely stay there again.
