“Good location and great roof top area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

Firstly the Manager / owner is delightful and very helpful. The hotel is close to the edge of the old town so is a great location. We had a room on the top floor with a mezzanine type arrangement for the bedroom. The bed although very clean, was awful. It squeaked like a million mice were in it just when you turned over! You had to climb a steep staircase to get to it so if you need to visit the bathroom in the night this is not the room for you!! We did have a small window that overlooked the harbour which was lovely. The bathroom had the smallest shower I have ever been in with a shower curtain that attached itself to you as soon as you got wet! There was as small kitchenette area with basic supplies. The kettle took 9 minutes to boil on the stove top. We didn't have anyone is the next door room for the first 2 nights however on the 3rd night we realised the partition wall must be made of cardboard as you could hear every sound. There is a lovely area outside the room where you can sit and have a drink. The roof top patio was great with a lovely view. There were no toiletries provided and no hairdryer although there is a safe in the wardrobe...which is downstairs! Whilst other reviewers have had great rooms I would NOT recommend the top floor rooms with the mezzanine for longer than 1 night. A little bit of money on new beds and a bit of a makeover would make this the perfect place to stay in Chania.

Room Tip: Not a "Traditional "room!!

We had 4 nights at the Hotel Nostos which is a delightfully quaint hotel in the heart of the historic harbour town of Chania. Our room had a balcony with views of the harbour . The rooms were spacious with the bed being upstairs in a loft area. We loved waking of a morning to the beautiful view from our bed of the lovely Venetian harbour. The lady at the front desk was delightful, greeting us with cappaccinos on arrival (while our rooms were finished off) & each morning serving us a wonderful breakfast. She was extremely helpful with all our needs, suggesting restaurants & attractions. I would not hesitate to recommend this delightful hotel.

Room Tip: rooms at the front have balconys. There are no lifts .

I spent a night at the Nostos hotel on a quick trip to Chania, and was thrilled to book the last single room they had available. The hotel itself is lovely and uniquely laid out, with windy stairs and hallways adorned with art and ornamental plants. The location is terrific as well, being in a central yet peaceful area of Old Town. Guests can also enjoy a sunny rooftop with inviting chairs and tables.

My room, a split-level loft, provided the "lots of character" experience I was hoping for. I think my only hesitation was the cleanliness of the room - it could have used a thorough dusting. The bathroom would really benefit from an update as well. Overall, however, it was a great room for the price.

Nostos hotel is just in the middle of the hourbour of Chania so it was easy for us to see the city. Thought that it would be noisy from the bars and restaurants but lucky us it was realy quiet. The rooms are big and spacious with a huge bed for me and my wife. Would defenetly choose Nostos for our next stay.

This is a charming hotel, full of character with a helpful and friendly proprietor who speaks excellent English. There's a beautiful outlook over the harbour from the roof terrace (or balcony if you've got one). Hotel Nostos has the best location in Chania, in the heart of the old Venetian town near the harbour and near good restaurants but in a quiet back street at the smart end of town. Excellent breakfasts too! Our room was large and well furnished, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was spotless. We were really glad we had chosen this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have a balcony with a view over the harbour

We had a look at this hotel which was recommended by Lonely Planet. We were charmed immediately by this lovely genuine place, situated right in the Old Harbour, and the warm welcome we received. Our room was spacious and pleasant with a nice view over the harbor. The bed was comfortable and so was the bathroom. The owners were very relaxed and allowed us to have breakfast whenever it suited us, and where it suited us. We could opt for having our breakfast either outside in the little street, inside in the cool dining area or upstairs in the roof garden, with stunning view over the Chania roofs, harbor and sea. Free wifi downstairs.
The owner is a discrete yet friendly and helpful person. He is very knowledgable about Chania and its surroundings, and speaks good English. The hotel was his family's home for many generations, and has been converted with eye for detail and style into this hotel. The pleasant classical music in the dining area just completed the picture.
All in all this was a very pleasant experience to us. An authentic place and oasis of rest and peace, right in the city center.

We picked this hotel off of Lonely Planet's guide, and it was one of our favorite places we stayed in our four weeks in Greece. The hotel staff is helpful, they let us check in early when we got off the ferry from Athens which was great. The room was fairly simple, but nice and clean, and the roof deck was a really nice place to spend some time reading or having a glass of wine. The location in the old town of Chania is also fantastic, right near some great restaurants. The windows have storm panels that helped dampen the saturday night street noise to a level acceptable to my total-insomniac husband.
