5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2014

We went there first week of july 2014 for 5 days. If you want to stay in Chania, get this hotel. Rated 4 stars but absolutely a 5 star hotel. Sound prove windows, silent air-conditioning, wonderful breakfast, beautiful, warm water en clean pool. Everything was perfect!
The bus station is next to the hotel but you cannot hear it.

The hotel is within a couple of minutes walk distance to the harbor and the old town. Very clean and well kept premises. It is newly renovated and modernly decorated. The bedroom was quite big and was cleaned daily. The breakfast area was very large and offered a vast variety of different food. Everyday you could taste something new!!! It is right next to the central bus station, from where you can catch the bus and go literaly anywhere you want in the island. I would definely stay here again.

Samaria hotel was one of best hotels i stay. Very clean and large rooms. Brand new! Very friendly staff, in the center of chania 5 min walk to the harbor and old town. Every day come and clean room and change the towel. The breakfast is just everything that you ask from fruits, cheese traditional cakes and sweets. Big tv in room.

Room Tip: All the rooms is very nice

We chose this hotel because of the many good reviews on tripadvisor. We were very impressed with the Samaria Hotel as it offers a modern 5 star accommodation in a great location for Chania town. I was very surprised to learn that the hotel hasn't been in operation very long because it feels very well-established. The room was spacious and I loved the modern decor. The bed was possibly the most comfortable hotel bed I've ever slept on! The bathroom was in pristine condition and was supplied with the gorgeous Korres range of toiletries. Excellent air-conditioning and the room was cleaned twice a day. The hotel lobby and reception area are beautifully furnished with a modern and luxurious finish. The breakfast offers a vast range of delicious, high quality food to suit all tastes; their choice of fresh fruit was particularly appreciated. Staff at the hotel were polite and friendly but also unobtrusive. This hotel seems to attract a lot of business people but there were also holiday-makers present. There is a pool of good size and the outside area is a beautiful place to relax and enjoy an evening cocktail. My only suggestion is that a green policy should be more evident; I don't change my towels every day at home, so why should I waste precious water (for Crete has little rainfall) when I'm on holiday. I would love to go back very soon, even for a few days. Ryanair flights from Stansted to Chania operate at very civilized times which makes travelling to Crete a very feasible long weekend destination.

While the Samaria Hotel is not in the Old Port section of Hania (or Chania or Xania -- I wish there were more standardization in the transliteration between Greek and English; you could be standing in front of a restaurant your guidebook recommends and not know it) it is a very short stroll (through the 1866 Square) to the top of Halidon (or Chalidon...) Street, the (mostly) pedestrian street leading down to the harbor. For that miniscule inconvenience (possibly not even that if you consider the noise you might have in an otherwise charming B&B right in the nightly hubbub of the tourist district) you get the amenities of a hotel oriented to the business traveler as well as the vacationer. First and foremost, this means a good-sized swimming pool; also a pretty good breakfast buffet. Our well air-conditioned room overlooked the main street but was not at all noisy. Staff were gracious and friendly; they let my wife use the pool before the official opening hour (and an early cab to the airport).
BTW, the Archaeological Museum is still in its old digs halfway down Halidon Street. It's slated to move to larger and spiffier quarters (out in the suburbs, alas), but I think the timetable has been affected by the world financial crisis, which hit Greece hardest among the E.U. countries.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights and we were completely satisfied with the location, food, nicely and newly renovated rooms, and a wonderful staff. A short 10 minute walk down to the port or the covered market, this hotel has the best location in Chania town to the tourist areas.

A big thumbs up for Samaria Hotel in Chania, probably the best in town. We stayed overnight on arrival and at the end of a fortnight travelling in Western Crete. Very well appointed rooms with classy bathrooms. We were upgraded to a suite, much appreciated. The hotel is very central with easy access to the old town of Chania, and bang next door to the city bus station; convenient, as we went first by bus to Paleochora. The restaurant recommendations we received from the front desk were excellent -- especially "Apostolis" (fresh fish) past the old warehouses and arsenal on the harbour front. The pool area was very pleasant despite the hotel´s proximity to the bus station. Staff were very friendly and helpful. And a great breakfast buffet with lots to choose from. Definitely worth spending a bit more to begin and end a holiday on a luxury note!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front of the hotel with a view towards the sea.
