“The only choice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2010

Hotel Porto Veneziano is the only hotel on the harbour-side in Chania. There are good hotels within the town but none have pleasant views. Half the hotel bedrooms look across the harbour, the others look across a street but you can still see the harbour to the right. The front -corner rooms, six in all, are magnificent suites, very spacious and well appointed.
These are expensive rooms but definitely the best. The whole hotel us set for a major refurbishment in November which may take five months. Most of the rooms, sea or street facing are modest in size as are the balconies. The rooms are modestly furnished. The hotel has a comfortable bar area off which leads a small pleasant garden at the rear of the hotel. Breakfast are the standard fare, plenty of choice but nothing is cooked. No evening meals are available as the harbour-side is packed with restaurants, all within a few steps from the hotel.
This is a fine hotel and the staff are exceptionally helpful and pleasant. We strongly recommend this, not least as the Chania harbour-side has no alternative.

Right on the harbour but away from the crowds, 5 minutes stroll to dozens of restaurants & bars. A small balcony looking out across the harbour, great breakfasts with a fresh orange juice machine, spotlessly clean room & bathroom, comfortable bed and the friendliest most helpful staff. Friendly bar. Lovely little secluded garden. What more could you ask for?

I was in Chania with friends and we booked several rooms at the Porto Veneziano. We were all lucky to get rooms with a balcony facing the harbor. ** If you can, get the far corner room on the third floor. Anyway...great views of the sunset over the western end of Crete. Close to all the attractions in the main town. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly. My family is from Chania and this is still the place that I would stay,

We stayed one night at Porto Veneziano and truly enjoyed our stay there. The view off of our balcony was incredible! But the most impressive thing was the extremely helpful and nice staff, especially the receptionist, Agipi. She was so wonderful, gave a great recommendation for dinner close by, and even called the restaurant while we were there to tell them it was my birthday! The location of the hotel is also perfect, walkable to all the sights in Chania. Oh and the breakfast was delicious! We were sad to leave so quick!

The room was small but standard and we could hear the people in the next room for a few minutes late at night, but we were so tired from traveling all day that we fell right to sleep anyway. We would still highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chania!

Paid about $100US to stay here for 1 night. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was awesome (especially the fresh-squeezed orange juice machine). Within walking distance to the restauarants/bars in Chania. Also, close to shopping district. Beds were comfortable and bathroom was fine. Standard for Greece.

Stayed at the end of the tourist season and the Veneziano was everything I needed it to be. It was close to the old Harbor, but far enough away to not feel overwhelmed by the crowds. Our window had one of the best views of the harbor lighthouse and the sunsets were amazing. It's about a 10 minute walk to the action and the twisting gorgeous streets of Hania. Rooms were very very simple and basic. This is not a 5 star accommodation. It's a clean room, decent bed and a shower, with a really reasonable price tag.

I loved waking in the morning and watching the fisherman clean their morning catch. The front desk can set you up with a group tour of the Samarian Gorge which included a bus ride to the start, a guide along the hike, time to relax after and then a ferry and bus ride back. Its an uber early start but so worth it.
