A friend and I had not much money and I found this pension on one of the hostel sites.

I think we paid the equivalent of £75 including continental breakfasts for the accommodation. We had a twin room all whitewashed, with a balcony, a toilet and shower room, and a wardrobe which also contained a large fridge.

The balcony overlooked the charming pool of which we made full use. It was a 5 minute stroll to the beach or to restaurants and the supermarket. The local bus stop opposite would take you further to Platanias or other resorts with more shop and night life (should you want it) for a euro or two. Excursions can be booked through the hotel and when we overslept one morning, the bus driver knocked for us and waited!! unheard of.

A lovely, lovely place with lovely people. Make time to visit Knossos and the Samaria Gorge while on the island. Unless you are very fit, do not attempt the full walk down the gorge. Do the boattrip to the bottom instead and walk up to the narrowest point.

Just spent 6 days at the Summer Lodge with my partner and we loved it. It's very good value for money, located just a 20 minute drive away from the city of Chania and 10 minutes away from the bar/club/shopping area of Platanias. The rooms were nice and clean, really above the average of similar rooms in Greece. No TV set in the room though, but equipped with a fridge, safe and a fan (you won't need an air conditioner, it's quite cool at night).

The beach is a 3 minute walk away, quite nice and, most importantly, quiet and not crowded. For a quick swim and a coffee in the morning/midday, the swimming pool is perfect.

The people who run it are very friendly, polite and discreet. No problems at all. Will recommend it to friends.
