Owner description: CRETE…A SMALL CONTINENT Walking in the Botanical park & Gardens of Crete offes spiritual tranquility and visual pleasure in addition to knowledge on plants and their material . Nearly 20 hectares of land are waiting to welcome you, full of fruit trees from all over the world, herbs, medicinal and ornamental plants in a park different from others, where the land’s formation and the region’s microclimate make it a paradise for hundreds of plants and animals! In the midst of this colorful and vivid landscape stands a burnt centennial olive tree, a memorial and a reference to the dismal fires of 2003, the park’s history and origin. The newest and one of the most interesting sites of the Prefecture of Chania lies only 18 kilometers outside the city, on the feet of the White Mountains. It is ideal for visitors of all ages, combining enjoyments that only Crete can offer!

“fantastic find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

We've tried to go several times and been unable--either closed or a race taking place on the road concerned etc. Anyway, we finally made it this April--a great time, but so would any season be, until late autumn, I think. Not only do they have flowers and trees from all over the world but it's set in a beautiful little crescent of hills (foothills of the White Mountains) which themselves have long held a place in our hearts, Also, their restaurant uses produce organically grown on the premises and attempts to authentically produce old Cretan recipes with the freshest herbs and spices, not just the usual.

“It is definitely worth a visit…”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

This ambulatory, educational and recreation 150-acre park is one of the most interesting sights of the Chania region, unique in its kind all over Europe and one of the very few all over the world.

Conveniently located close to the city of Chania , on the 13th kilometer of the road leading from Chania ,through Fournes village , to Omalos, it awaits visitors to enable them to get a close look at 950 varieties of 170 fruit trees in which the park specializes , but also at over 100 Mediterranean , endemic herbs, aromatic and medicinal plants as well as dozens of decorative plants etc.

If you take a stroll on the 2.5-kilometre paths and trails of the park you will find points where you can stop for a rest .
This walk will take over one and a half hour ,however, you will be compensated for all your time and weariness by the valuable knowledge you can accumulate from the explanatory signs placed right next to each plant or tree you come across , not to mention the precious moments of relaxation and peacefulness in this idyllic , green environment.

The notable restaurant of the establishment, dominating the park , offering an uninterrupted view of the surrounding area, provides the visitors with guaranteed quality food made from pure local ingredients , prepared in traditional ways with traditional means (e.g. over an open fire in a specially designed fireplace, in a wood oven , roasting on a metal tray placed over an open fire ).
Great emphasis is placed on the Cretan Diet and Cuisine so it goes without saying that , even the hungriest and most tired visitors will be totally satisfied and will forget their fatigue.

It is definitely worth a visit…

Beautiful walk (around 2 hours) at the best microclimate of the world ! You can see a very big variety of tropical plants, herbs from all around the Mediteranean, and of course all the kind of plants and trees from Southern Greece.

“An excellent place to visit and eat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

My wife and I visited this park recently wanting to try the restaurant as we had heard that the food was not only good but ethnically Greek. We were not disappointed. Even for winter there was a pretty full menu of traditional Greek cuisine. We went for lambs liver with rosemary and lagana dolmades (stuffed cabbage leaves). Both dishes were really tasty. As the portions were generous we only had room for one main course between us and we went for Lamb in the oven with oven potatoes, absolutely gorgeous. Most of the vegetables and herbs they use come from within the park. The restaurant/taverna is situated on top of the park and the views are stunning. Kostas, who runs the place is a really nice, friendly person who spent quite a bit of time with us explaining the menu and telling us about how the park came into being. During the winter the restaurant is open on Saturdays and Sundays with the kitchen closing around 6pm. We will certainly be visiting again and hope to walk around the park. Would fully recommend it.
