“Good location with helpful staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

We are aiming at the samaria gorge so we have come to chania. The staff in the reception is very helpful for checking the price of the tour group and bus schedule, so that we can compare the cost for going there. The place is very near the town center, we can find bars and restaurants easily by going to the seaside. Though the budget room is not modern and well-renovated, but the rate is reasonable. Because we are not going to enjoy the facilities provided by the hotel.

Room Tip: Higher floors are recommended as it is quieter.

The hotel is very central. Everything you need in Chania city is only minutes away. The rooms are not very large but you have all the space you need. Really clean and the wc has shower cabins - not plastic curtains. The hotel stuff is very friendly and they give you the right recommendations. If you go there by car like me theres easy parking on the road. I recommend and the price is very reasonable.

Chania Old Town is exceptional, but impossible for car users and it's crowded in the summer. My previous experience has been quaint (but pricey, old and noisy) old-town hotels, or expensive modern rooms outside the Old Town. This hotel is a gem - it's clean and modern, has free and plentiful parking, good air conditionaing and is only 150m from the harbour. And it's exceptionally reasonable price-wise.

If you're travelling in Crete, this is a perfect place to park up for a couple of days and explore the most beautiful and intriguing city on the island. It's a good base for day trips by car in the west of the island.

I consider myself lucky because I booked it for the price and I had much more than a budget hotel.
Me and my girlfriend had a wonderful time staying in the hotel. We had many recommendation where to go and what to see. The room gives you the feeling of modern and comfortable and it's very clean and cozzy.
Ask Christos to tell you where should you go out at night. The area is very central with a lot of choices for night life.
It is very close to the tourist attractions, but is quiet.
I recommend it especially to those who have a car.

Chania is a great place to just stroll around, and this hotel is in a good location being just a five to ten minute walk away from the main part of town. Not too imposing from the outside, but inside the hotel is very smart. The room we had was modern, clean and comfortable, with a small balcony overlooking the road. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and the free use of internet in the lobby was a bonus. Good value for money and would certainly recommend the place to others. We stayed during October, so 'room only' basis, no breakfast, and parking wasn't a problem, but I imagine it may be an issue during trhe high season.

I recommend Hotel Filoxenia very highly! Rooms are nice and you can find everything you need: fridge, hair dryer, fresh towels on every morning, little patio on every room, breakfast and the most importantly AC. Service is very friendly and warm and the owner's son is great guy! He can tell you the best beaches, places to shop with locals and rent car for you if needed. They also gave us a little discount when we wanted to book one extra day at the hotel (our home flight left at 11pm). The price was very reasonable and we really enjoyed our time in Hotel Filoxenia.

Ps. Hotel is located to that old harbour, where you see no other tourists, all great greek restaurants are and the price level is much more reasonable that there in venetzian harbour.

Let me start with the mundane. The room was fine, clean, adequate. Access was from a narrow side street near the harbour. With the door of our room just off reception and adjacent to the bar, things got a little noisy, including someone clinking glasses at 3am! But this was more than offset by the personality of the proprietor's son, Xristos. He didn't bat an eyelid at our late check-in as our plane was delayed to 11pm, discussed our proposed itinerary of Crete with us, shared his own photos of the the south coast, recommended alternatives, sent us off into the night to view the harbour lighthouse while it was all dark, and set us up to use the hotel internet and printer. And when we left behind a feather pillow, he ensured it was waiting for us on our return. What a marvellous introduction to Crete!
